5. Sean Connery
Best known for his turns as Bond, James Bond in the 007 franchise, Sean Connery is a rags-to-riches story. The Scottish actor grew up poor in Fountainbridge, Edinburg before rising to fame in America. Connery has continued to be frugal, not springing for chauffeurs or secretaries, as he’s said he wants to keep the money he’s earned. He is notorious for not signing autographs because he doesn’t make money off them. But Connery makes the list, not for his talent or his miserly ways, but for his stance on women. He is quoted as saying that if a woman deserves to be hit, well then, so be it, just hit her with an open hand rather than a clenched fist. When Barbara Walters gave the actor a chance to clarify his comments in an interview, he simply said, “I haven’t changed my opinion.”
