There is a lot to think about when it comes to planning such an important event. There is the venue, the food, the attire, decorations, and of course the guest list. Who gets to go to a celebrity wedding? If you’re these couples, not many people! Most of these couples chose to invite only their closest family and friends, and can we blame them? Sometimes it’s nice not to have everyone staring right at you. A small and intimate wedding can mean even more to a couple and their loved ones. It also helped that a lot of these celebrities already had nice homes to go to for their wedding ceremony or reception. If we were Keira Knightley or Mariah Carey, we could just go to our French farmhouse or private home in the Bahamas. Alas, we will probably never have that luxury, but it doesn’t mean we can’t take a cue from these celebs and discover that small and private weddings can actually be a whole lot of fun. 15. Angelina Jolie + Brad Pitt This couple had us all fooled! Most people just assumed that Jolie and Pitt were all modern and preferred to just stay engaged forever. Yet on August 23, 2014, the two got hitched in a secret, private ceremony in France. Almost no one knew about it, and the two had their children do a lot of the baking and craft work. After all, they have six kids. Brad’s mother was in charge of the flower arrangements for the wedding. The children even helped them write their wedding vows to each other. How cute is that? Even though the couple had been together for nearly a decade, they do think that being married feels different, but in a good way. Their guest list included about 24 people and they all celebrated with wine from the couple’s vineyard. Upon hearing the news of the undercover marriage, people all over the world were happy and grateful that it finally happened! 14. Keira Knightley + James Righton On May 4, 2013 actress Keira Knightley and her fiancé James Righton headed to France to get married, but it wasn’t as swanky as one might think. Keira and James opted for a very intimate and private wedding ceremony, and Knightley wore only one dress throughout the ceremony and reception (that’s quite rare for a rich celebrity!) Granted, the dress was a lovely Chanel number, and she probably got it at a steep discount considering she served as a Chanel spokeswoman. She even made more waves in fashion news when she repurposed the dress and wore it to a Hollywood event months later. Talk about being frugal and resourceful! We need more of that in Hollywood anyway. The couple tied the knot and had their first kiss as hubby and wife at the Town Hall in Mazan, France. Afterwards, the celebration continued at Knightley’s pretty farmhouse in southern France. 13. Nancy Shevell + Paul McCartney Well, first of all, Paul McCartney was practically ancient by the time he married Nancy Shevell, so a lavish affair was out of the question. The couple got hitched on October 9, 2011. Secondly, it was Paul’s third (yes, third) wedding, so he was probably over all the glitz and glamour. All the two needed was about 30 of their closest friends to tie the knot in simplicity and style. They got hitched right in London at the Old Marylebone Town Hall. A lovely knee-length shift dress and a delicate flower in her hair helped to complete Shevell’s look. McCartney opted for a navy blue suit that was designed by his own stepdaughter, Stella McCartney, and Paul’s other daughter Beatrice was the 7-year-old flower girl. Even though the marriage ceremony was low-key, there were still loads of paparazzi trying to get in and take photos. McCartney was light-hearted about it and asked innocently what were all the photographers there for. 12. Mariah Carey + Nick Cannon This seems seriously uncharacteristic of the fabulous diva Mariah Carey, but her wedding with Nick Cannon was not as elaborate as you’d expect. Their wedding back on April 30, 2008 was at her private residence in the Bahamas and featured a super small guest list of only their closest family and friends. Of course, Carey’s beloved Jack Russell Terrier must have been in attendance as well! And while it was pretty swanky because it was in the Bahamas, it probably helped that it was on Carey’s own property. That really cut down on expenses. The couple wore matching white ensembles (her dress perfectly hugged her curves) and she and Cannon welcomed twin babies on their wedding anniversary (April 30, 2011!) However, Cannon filed for divorce on December 12, 2014 and the couple was locked into a custody battle for the twins as well as a nasty court case for millions of dollars. 11. Anna Faris + Chris Pratt Anna Faris and Chris Pratt decided to get married in Bali, but the way they came to that conclusion was bizarre and unfortunate. The couple was vacationing in Bali and suffered from some nasty food poisoning. They were getting ready to order food via the room service in their hotel when Pratt noticed that the resort offered wedding ceremonies. That was when they decided to get hitched right there! The wedding cost them only $800. Previously, there were rumors circulating that Faris and Pratt were getting married in Hawaii, but that wasn’t the case. The wedding took place on July 9, 2009, but when you love your partner who cares where the wedding is? It is easy to see that Faris is head over heels in love with her husband, and why not? Chris Pratt is one of the hottest actors out there and has gone from humble to hottie. Now the couple has two lovely kids, truly completing the fairytale ending. 10. Megan Hilty + Brian Gallagher Hilty and Gallagher got married in Las Vegas at a wedding chapel at the Venetian resort. This was back in 2013, on November 2nd and they had no time to waste because they were so in love . Hilty and Gallagher definitely bypassed a lot of the expensive costs of planning an elaborate wedding, but that didn’t mean that Hilty’s dress was dull and boring. She went with a wedding gown designed by Badgley Mischka, which made her look like one of the luscious brides in wedding magazines. For his part, Gallagher was decked out in a very elegant Jay Lindberg suit. It’s kind of interesting that they opted for a small, secretive, and simple wedding because they are Broadway stars, and theater is their profession. We would think that professional stage actors would favor the more elaborate things in life. Oh well! 9. Sinead O’Connor + Barry Herridge Sinead O’Connor has been married a whopping four times, but let’s focus on the wedding that took place on December 9, 2011. We loved that O’Connor met Barry Herridge through an online dating website, what a modern couple! They also got married in a low-key wedding in Las Vegas. The cool part? They kissed as husband and wife in a smashing pink baby Cadillac. The sad part of the story is that the couple split up mere weeks after tying the knot. But then they got back together! It’s really hard to determine at any given moment where they are at in their relationship. O’Connor has a history of mental illness (she has manic depression and bi-polar disorder), so you can only wonder if that may play a factor. She has even written suicide notes and referenced her ex-husbands (including Gallagher). We sincerely wish them all the best and it would be wonderful if Herridge could be the stable rock that Sinead so desperately needs and deserves. 8. Isla Fisher + Sacha Baron Cohen Fisher and Baron Cohen took the traditional route, opting for an orthodox Jewish wedding ceremony. While the wedding took place in Paris, France, it was a very small ceremony and featured only the essential individuals, six people in total. They announced the wedding would take place with only a short time period beforehand and they worked quickly and quietly to get things in place without attracting media attention. So what’s it like to be married to such a controversial comedic actor like Sacha Baron Cohen? According to Fisher, it’s far from normal. There is always the question of what sort of crazy thing her husband did this time. As for Fisher, she may be more under the radar, which is a very good thing. You can’t have too much craziness in one couple! She converted to Judaism after getting married and had been studying the religion for about 3 years prior to the wedding. 7. Anna Paquin + Stephen Moyer The couple played an on-screen couple on True Blood, but in real life, their romance is just as spicy. They chose to get hitched in Malibu along with the company of their closest family and friends. It was an intimate affair and did not break the bank (even though they should both be comfortable financially). An added bonus was that Elijah Wood was there for the August 21st, 2010, wedding ceremony. Paquin wore a simple wedding dress and an easy-going updo for the sunset beach wedding. Their hush-hush wedding shouldn’t really come as a surprise. After all, they kept their dating relationship under wraps for quite a bit before publicly announcing that they were a couple. Even so, lots of people could have guessed, because the two actors have such chemistry on the silver screen. We’re just glad that they’re still together! 6. Miranda Kerr + Orlando Bloom Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr started dating actor Orlando Bloom in 2007. On July 22, 2010, the couple tied the knot. We would think that a supermodel would want a wedding that was super lavish and spared no expense, but things were much more low-key. The couple got married in a secret wedding ceremony and they then whisked themselves away to the Caribbean to celebrate their honeymoon. The wedding may have come as a surprise, considering the couple had only gotten engaged one month beforehand. About six months later, Kerr gave birth to their son, Flynn Christopher Blanchard Copeland Bloom (jeez). However, they separated in 2013 and now Kerr is dating the CEO of SnapChat, Evan Spiegel. Bloom has been seen canoodling with Katy Perry, which apparently has gotten under Kerr’s skin It shouldn’t though because she seems to be happy with her new beau and lovely 5-year-old son. 5. Megan Fox + Brian Austin Green Although these celebs are absolutely loaded with money, they chose a discrete beach wedding in Hawaii back in 2010. Only four people total were there, including the happy couple. The other two individuals were Austin Green’s young son and the priest who married the couple. Fox and Austin Green started dating in 2004, got engaged in 2006, called it off in 2009, and got engaged to each other again on June 1, 2010. Hmm…red flags or what? We could already see where this was going. The couple already had a significant age gap between them (Fox was only 18 when she first met Austin Green who was 31), and she filed for divorce in August 2015. However, in early 2016, she was back together with Brian and was pregnant with their third child. Man, no wonder they didn’t want a lavish and expensive wedding, their romantic relationship is all over the place. Megan is currently heavily pregnant and is still with Austin Green. 4. This wedding was under wraps and only a few people knew about it. Weisz and Craig got hitched right in New York City, but they were great at keeping the secret so they weren’t bombarded with paparazzi cameras. The wedding was sleek and elegant, but very refined and minimalistic. And talk about a tiny wedding; there were just four guests in attendance! Weisz had her son Henry there, and Craig had Ella, his 18-year-old daughter attend. The other two guests were friends who served as witnesses to the wedding. When asked about why she kept her marriage to Daniel Craig so quiet, Weisz said that she didn’t want all of the fuss because Craig is already such a famous guy. Hey, we can’t blame her for not wanting everyone all up in her business. Good for her! 3. Rosie O’Donnell + Michelle Rounds The comedienne and her girlfriend got married on June 9, 2012. This celeb couple actually wanted to go all out for their wedding, but Rounds was diagnosed with a rare disease. She had desmoid tumors, which are abnormal growths that can threaten the structure and stability of bones and ligaments. So the wedding date was pushed up and O’Donnell and Rounds tied the knot in a private ceremony. Shortly afterwards, Rounds went in for surgery to treat her tumors. This was the second marriage for O’Donnell, who is 10 years older than Rounds. The wedding ceremony was gorgeous and minimal, but unfortunately, the couple split up and divorced in November 2014. After a rigorous courtroom battle, O’Donnell announced that she would not be getting married ever again. O’Donnell will still have to have some sort of contact with Rounds considering that they have a young adopted daughter together. 2. Kristen Bell + Dax Shepard October 17, 2013. The celebrity couple was engaged for four years as they waited for the United States Supreme Court to pass legislation allowing for gay marriage. This was in honor of all of their friends who were bogged down and restricted by the Defense of Marriage Act. Once the Act was slammed down, Belland Shepard went to the County Clerk’s office in Beverly Hills, California and tied the knot in a courtroom. Totally legit, by the way. While it lacked a lot of the Hollywood sparkle, they didn’t seem to mind. Even so, a lot of people called it the worst Hollywood wedding ever. Ouch. Who cares though, because the couple was able to get married and tie the knot for just $142. The comedic couple actually took it all in stride, and even cut a wedding cake that was decorated with the iced-on words “Worst Wedding Ever.” 1. Stacy Keibler + Jared Pobre Come on, Jared’s last name means “poor” in Spanish! Anyway, this celeb couple tied the knot on March 8, 2014 in Mexico. Their trip to Mexico was actually supposed to be a vacation, which it was. They just happened to get hitched during their vacation. The surprise wedding was nice and cheap, but still utterly delightful. You might think that a successful entrepreneur like Jared Pobre would shell out some bigger bucks for his bride, but Keibler didn’t seem to mind. The couple was obviously in love, considering that the marriage took place just six months after they decided to really go steady in their relationship. The two had discussed it and realized that they would rather spend their funds on building their family rather than splashing out on a one-day event. More power to them!
