Amniocentesis
Another test that is often used for detecting genetic abnormalities, amniocentesis can also be used to establish paternity, but it is only available between weeks 14 and 20 in the pregnancy. During this procedure, a doctor uses a thin needle inserted via the woman’s abdomen to obtain a sample of amniotic fluid. The needle, like in CVS, is guided via an ultrasound image.
There are risks associated with amniocentesis, including potential harm to the baby and miscarriage. It can also cause bleeding, cramping, and amniotic fluid leakage. Have you had to undergo CVS or an amniocentesis? What was your experience like?
