In a concerning development, the Sudan Old Students Association of Nigeria (SOSAN) has issued an urgent warning that over 2,500 Nigerian students are trapped inside the Sudan/African University, lacking food, water, and money.
The President of the association, Aliyu Abdulkadir Abdulkadir, spoke out about the dire situation, saying that the students’ lives are in extreme danger.
The association stated that they received distress calls from the students, prompting them to offer special prayers for their safety.
The situation is even worse for the 5,000 students who were reportedly transported to Egypt, as they are still stuck at the border and have not been allowed to enter the country. Some of these students have been abandoned in the bush by bus drivers for not paying their money.
Abdulkadir further lamented that the money meant for evacuating the students is being tampered with, leaving hundreds of them in extreme danger inside Khartoum.
He said, “reports reaching us is that right now although there is no case of losing lives, but some female students are said to be raped while gun battles have already reached within the university”.
Another old student of the Sudan University, Gambo Ado, said that still, they have students at the Sudan International University of Africa who are stranded. He said most are women and have no food or shelter.
