A 16-year-old boy, Emmanuel John, has been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for allegedly killing his father, Monday John.
Emmanuel reportedly used a pestle to pound his father to death at around 10pm on Tuesday, May 2, during a physical altercation between his father and mother, Mrs Mercy John.
A police source said that a case of culpable homicide was reported to the Karshi Police Station by one Yusuf Ayuba on Wednesday, May 3.
Emmanuel is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in a juvenile court after the police investigation.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, confirmed the incident during a press briefing on Friday, stating that Emmanuel hit his father hard on the head with a pestle.
Garba explained that the altercation between the deceased and his wife led to Emmanuel taking his mother’s side, resulting in the fatal assault.
Garba said, “It all happened when the suspect’s mother and father engaged each other in a physical fight. The suspect took sides with his mother and used a pestle to hit hard on the father’s head which eventually led to his death. The suspect will be arraigned in a juvenile court at the conclusion of investigation.”
The police have advised members of the public to seek help in resolving disputes and conflicts within their homes, rather than resorting to violence.
