A middle-aged farmer named Gbenga Akintola has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for robbery by an Ondo State High Court in Akure.
Akintola, who is from Ondo East Local Council Area, faced a five-count charge that included conspiracy to commit a felony, specifically armed robbery.
According to the charge sheet, Akintola, along with an accomplice who is still at large, committed the crimes between August and October 2021 in the vicinity of Oke-Olifi via Itanla Junction, Ondo town. The victims named in the case were Chidinma, Rufus Rhoda, and Ayodeji Oluwayemisi.

In another incident, he reportedly robbed Ayodeji Oluwayemisi of her bag, an iPhone valued at N45,000, and N2,800, using a cutlass and other offensive weapons.
The court was informed by the police prosecutor, Inspector Alako Abdulahi, that Akintola was apprehended by operatives of the Amotekun Corps, who brought him to the police station on October 19, 2021. At the time of his arrest, four mobile phones, a motorcycle, a bag, and a small purse were recovered from him.
During the court proceedings, one of the victims, Rufus Rhoda, testified that she and Chidinma were on their way to church when the defendant emerged from the bushes wearing a cap and brandishing a cutlass.
As a result, Justice W. R. Olamide handed down a sentence of seven years imprisonment for conspiracy and 21 years imprisonment for robbery, to be served concurrently.
