The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of four suspected notorious cultists who had been causing havoc in the Rundele Community of Emohua Local Government Area in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka-Polycarp, made this announcement in Port Harcourt.
CP Emeka-Polycarp identified the deceased cultists as Chinumezie, also known as Nigaro; Chisa Orji, Okona Okwu, and another individual who is yet to be identified. These individuals were responsible for the killing of four members of a local vigilante group in the Rundele community.
According to the Commissioner of Police, the cultists engaged in a gun battle with the police and members of the local vigilante group, resulting in their deaths.
CP Emeka-Polycarp emphasized that under his leadership, the Command is committed to ensuring the security of lives and properties in Rivers State.
In his words;
“On June 2, 2023, at approximately 5:40 pm, we received information that some cult members had invaded Mgbuela village in Ndele community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.”
“The Divisional Police Officer in Rumuji promptly mobilized patrol teams to the scene, where a gun battle ensued between the cult gangs and the police, assisted by local vigilantes.”
“During the exchange of gunfire, four of the cult members sustained fatal injuries.”
“One of the identified cultists was Chinumezi, also known as Nigaro, who was associated with the Daygbam cult group and other cult groups.”
The police will continue their efforts to maintain law and order in the state and ensure the safety of its residents.
