The Zamfara Police Command has successfully rescued nine children who were abducted by bandits from the Gora-Namaye Community in Maradun Local Government Area of the state.
ASP Yazid Abubakar, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued in Gusau on Sunday.
According to Abubakar, the incident occurred on June 3, 2023, when armed bandits intercepted and abducted the children, who had been sent by their parents to fetch firewood in the bush.
Upon receiving the report, the police and other security agencies swiftly mobilized to the scene and initiated a search and rescue operation, leading to the safe recovery of the abducted children.
The police spokesperson further stated that the command had reunited the rescued children with their families without any conditions. Efforts are still ongoing to track down the criminals involved in the abduction for prosecution.
It is worth noting that prior to the rescue, bandits had attacked several communities in Maradun LGA the previous day, resulting in the loss of innocent lives.
