In a successful operation on Tuesday, May 30, the Rivers State Police Command rescued six pregnant young women from an illegal child trafficking center located in the Aliu area of the state.
These women, aged between 20 and 23 years, were found to be held captive by a syndicate that planned to sell their babies once they were born.
During the raid, the police arrested the owner of the illegal center, Akudo Azoroh, along with an accomplice. The syndicate had been operating covertly, exploiting vulnerable pregnant women for their own financial gain.
On Wednesday, May 31, Azoroh was paraded by the police. She claimed that she facilitated adoptions for families without children and denied any involvement in ritual practices.
Azoroh revealed that the young women had already been pregnant when they came to her center, seeking monetary compensation ranging from N800,000 to N900,000 based on the stage of their pregnancy and the gender of the baby.
