Every day Science Fiction films look less and less fictional, and Fantasy worlds look so real that it’s become hard to tell the difference. But what happens when this realism is used not only to entertain us, but to frighten us as well? Horror movies have become more believable, and thus all the more horrible. Blood and gore have become so realistic that watching a violent death on screen can be almost as traumatizing as watching someone die in front of you.
These next ten films are those that bolster the highest reputation to shock, scare and appall. Many have been banned in numerous countries, and most aren’t for the faint of heart or those with weak stomachs. So make sure no kids are around when you watch any of the films from our Top Ten List of The Most Gruesome Movies ever made.
10. Evil Dead (2013)
Evil Dead is a remake of a 1981 horror film of the same name, which set a lot of staples for the horror industry to build off of or to borrow from. A lot of horror movies and franchises wouldn’t be what they are today without the tropes that The Evil Dead created for the genre. To a 2013 audience, the plot ofEvil Dead may have seemed unoriginal: a group of teenagers meet up and stay at a remote cabin in the middle of the woods, where one of them read from a satanic book which opens a portal for evil spirits to terrorize and kill them. However, the reason so many films have a similar setting or plot, is because The Evil Dead did it first. If you’re not a fan of gore, this isn’t the movie for you, as it is filled with broken limbs, self-mutilation, possessed girls cutting their own tongues, and enough blood to fill a swimming pool.
