Peoples Daily reports that there is possible break-up of the party in the nearest future as the governors seem to have had a enough and are willing to form a new party.
In a meeting they held last week, the PDP governors resolved to either force Mu’azu out of the party or leave the party. They were said to have met with President Goodluck Jonathan after their meeting, to brief him of their plan to ensure the Mu’azu loses his job.
It was gathered that some of the governors are already in Abuja for other round of meeting summoned by their Chairman and Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, to determine Mu’azu’s fate.
Meanwhile, reports had emerged that the governors have a “Plan B” which is to completely abandon the party, they are set execute the plan in the event of Mu’Azu’s refusal to resign, especially before President Jonathan vacates his seat on the 29th of May 2015.
The PDP Chairman is currently not in Nigeria even as there are insinuations that Mu’azu is hoping to keep his seat as a way of boosting his political profile ahead of the 2019 elections, when he is rumoured to have interest in contesting for the presidency.
Just last week, the media was awash with news that Mu’azu was sent out of a meeting the governors were having at the Akwa-Ibom State Governor’s Lodge.
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, who has been having a running battle with Mu’azu has also called for the dissolution of the Mu’azu-led National Working Committee of the PDP.
Governors of the PDP had repeatedly asked the national chairman and other members of the party’s National Working Committee to resign, accusing them of working against the party during the general elections.
There are indications that Mu’azu might be replaced by an outgoing governor from the south-south region of the country, which could occur on or before May 29.
