Paolo Maldini is widely regarded as one of the best defenders of all times, and rightly so. In a career that spanned  24 years, Maldini won numerous trophies with AC Milan. However, despite winning 5 Champions Leagues among several other trophies, Paolo Maldini never quite got the chance to lift a major international trophy. He came close to winning one in 1994 and in 2000, but Italy finished as runner-ups in both occasions.
