6. Battle Royale (2000)
Before there was Hunger Games, there was Battle Royale. Set in Japan and in the not-too-distant future, a group of unsuspecting Grade 9 students go on an end-of-the-year class trip, only to be abducted and marooned on an isolated island. They were the class chosen for the annual Battle Royale, a National televised killing game between classmates and friends, of which only one can win and only one can survive.
A main difference between this film and The Hunger Games is that Battle Royale is less shy about its gore, allowing for brutal and bloody murders between classmates who were once friends.
