1. Prince Charles And Lady Diana, $48 Million
The wedding between Prince Charles and Princess Diana cost $48 million in 1981, adjusted to inflation, their wedding would cost nearly $70 million in 2016. While things never quite worked out for this royal couple, it might be the biggest wedding ceremony of the 20th century. Watched by nearly 750 million people live on television, their wedding redefined public relationships forever, ushering in a new age for royalty and celebrity. Crowds of over 600,000 people gathered in the streets to celebrate and maybe catch a glimpse of Lady Diana, while 3,500 attended the actual ceremony. While dubbed a fairytale wedding, their marriage was anything but. Prince Charles was unfaithful since the beginning, the pressure of the royal family took a serious toll on Diana’s mental health and the pair would divorce a year before Diana, then just 36 years old, would die in a fatal car crash.
