7. Girl Next Door
Oftentimes, actresses use overly sexualized films to try and boost their careers. From Cameron Diaz in scantily clad ensembles in Something About Mary and the Charlie’s Angels film series to Angelina Jolieappearing naked in Gia, sometimes these sorts of tactics have been successful in helping further a film career. Yet, that isn’t always the case for all of Hollywood’s up and comers. While the stripper act may have worked out well for Marisa Tomei in her highly acclaimed performance in The Wrestler, it didn’t do any favors for Elizabeth Berkley in Showgirls. The 2004 film, The Girl Next Door, was pretty much a make or break moment for lead actress, Elisha Cuthbert, since none of her previous performances really helped her become a household name. While the release of this film was the start of her decline in Hollywood, that doesn’t take away from the incredible sex appeal she exuded as the adult star next door. The pool scene unleashed all the feelings of teenage angst and the longing for a seductress to take control. While it may not have ended the way the Matthew Kidman character wanted, but the scene was enough to definitely make the film worth watching.
