Teachers who use their power and authority to lure in unsuspecting children and take advantage of them should be met with more than just a slap on the wrist. They break the trust of their students, parents, faculty and those in the community, and they should be dealt with accordingly. Once they are caught in the act, many teachers try to justify their unspeakable crimes by insisting they did nothing wrong, but the rest of us definitely beg to differ. Mark Berndt’s crime against students is one of the worst in recent years. The former elementary school teacher was accused of gagging and blindfolding students in his classroom. It was “disguised as a game” that Berndt would play with his students between the years 2008-2010. What the students and parents weren’t aware of was that the students were being subjected to disgusting lewd acts.

Berndt would photograph his victims and place large Madagascar cockroaches on them. Some of the female students were photographed holding a blue spoon with a white substance on it. It was later discovered the substance was actually Berndt’s bodily fluids, and the girls had consumed it. More than 400 photos were confiscated, and many of the children have already been identified.

The Miramonte Elementary teacher was arrested and held on $2.3 million bail. He was later found guilty of 23 counts of lewd conduct, and he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

A teacher at Euless Junior High named Cornelius Smith was arrested for sexual assault of a child when it was discovered that his 15-year-old victim had been impregnated by him.

Smith was the victim’s speech teacher for the 2015 school year. The two began communicating privately through Kik messenger service during the holiday break that same year. In February 2016, he began to meet up with the young girl outside of school, and their relationship escalated. The victim told police Smith would pull her out of her other classes to kiss and engage in sex acts. Although Smith says they only engaged in intercourse once, the victim says Smith came to her family home many times during spring break, and they had “consensual sex” multiple times.

On June 2, 2016, the victim contacted Smith to let him know she might be pregnant, and they bought a pregnancy test to confirm. Smith told the victim he would support her if she wanted to have the baby or if she wanted to get an abortion, but he would have to move his wife and child out of the state first. Smith turned himself in to authorities and was charged with a second-degree felony of sexual assault of a child.

A teacher at a Miami Beach child daycare center was arrested when she was caught on surveillance cameras physically abusing young child. Parents were shocked to learn 54-year-old Clara Luz Quintero Gonzalez was using physical force frequently against at least four victims ages 2 and 3.

She was charged with aggravated child abuse, child abuse and child neglect when she was caught slapping a 3-year-old boy and grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him. A witness says Gonzalez hit the boy “four times” on his hands. The witness confronted the teacher about her actions, and the two engaged in a verbal altercation.

After reviewing the camera footage, detectives observed Gonzalez putting her face up against the child’s left ear. The child tried to move away from her, and that’s when Gonzalez slapped the victim on his right arm. She then yanked him by the arm. Another incident showed the woman hitting a 3-year-old student for no reason at all. And in a fourth incident, she hit a 2-year-old child with a closed right fist on their right arm.

Middle school teacher Alyson London saw her teaching career come to an end when it was discovered she was engaging in inappropriate sexting conversations with students. The Apopka, Florida police arrested London when it was revealed she was having a relationship with a former student. The student, who is now in high school, said she wasn’t having a romantic relationship with the physical education teacher. But when police looked through the student’s phone records, they found 129,000 deleted text messages between London and the student. The student said she “made up a lot of the things” that she was saying to the teacher via text, but the deleted messages were more than enough for detectives to confirm that their relationship had crossed the line. London has since been arrested and is no longer employed at the school.

Alicia Bromfield, a substitute teacher at The Crenshaw School in Gotha, Florida was arrested after engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a male student. Bromfield contacted the 16-year-old student and asked him if she could pick him up at his house and take him to her apartment. The student agreed, and once he arrived at her home, Bromfield proceeded to serve him alcohol until he was drunk. She then suggested they watch a movie in her bedroom, and that’s where the intercourse took place.

The student spent the night at Bromfield’s apartment, and she drove him back home around 5 a.m. the next morning. Teachers became suspicious of the relationship, and once they discovered intercourse had taken place, they alerted the authorities. Bromfield was arrested and charged with unlawful sex with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Rancho High School teacher Jason R. Lofthouse was arrested on two counts of first-degree kidnapping and four counts of sexual acts with a student ages 16-17. Lofthouse, a geography and U.S. government teacher, engaged in sexual activity with the student in his classroom and at two hotels in Las Vegas.

32-year-old Lofthouse would pick the student up near her neighborhood, and they would check into the hotels. The student missed school a couple times to go to the hotels with Lofthouse. He was also accused of abusing previous students, as well.

In the courtroom, Lofthouse expressed remorse for his actions, and he said he made bad choices because he was “lonely,” and he felt “unwanted and unloved.” As his wife and family looked on, he was found guilty of all charges and sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison. 4. 31-year-old Lamont Houston was arrested and charged with sexual battery of a child between ages 12 and 18, lewd and lascivious molestation of a child between the ages 12 and 16, child abuse for someone 21 years or older, and impregnating a child under the age of 16.

The Florida teacher began an inappropriate relationship with victim when he met her at Lincoln Middle school. They began exchanging text messages, and in June 2016, Houston picked the girl up without her parents’ permission. The two then engaged in intercourse in his car. Weeks later, he picked her up again, drove her around, and engaged in intercourse inside his car at a secluded parking lot. The victim later found out she was pregnant and reported the crime to her family. Houston’s bond has been set at $55,000 and if convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

53-year-old Olga Garza is being accused of force-feeding one of her 4-year-old students. A teacher’s assistant witnessed Garza holding the 4-year-old-female’s nose, causing her to gasp for air. The teacher then tried to get the victim to eat by forcing the food into her mouth. The assistant begged her to stop multiple times, but Garza wouldn’t let up. The incident was all caught on surveillance video, and Garza was charged with injury to a child, a third-degree felony. When the child’s father found out about the incident, he was furious. He wanted to immediately press charges against the teacher after the surveillance footage showed her pinching the child’s nose for up to 33 seconds while the victim desperately tried to move away from her. The teacher claims she was forcing the child to eat because she was concerned for her health.

A Maryland teacher named Todd Michael Schreiber was convicted of a despicable crime that took place at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. The former teacher was accused of using his cellphone to take photos up students’ skirts. A 14-year-old student told investigators that while retaking a test after school, she saw 38-year-old Schreiber point a phone under her skirt. She jumped back and distanced herself from him. Once she finished the exam, she told her family about the incident.

A detective interviewed Schreiber and asked to see his phone. When detectives browsed the photos in his cellphone, they saw pictures of “various areas of the female anatomy.” Schreiber tried to grab his phone away, but he had already been busted. He faces up to 25 years in prison on each count. He is currently out on bond until his January 2017 sentencing date.

A Ukrainian teacher by the name of Galina Kovalenko committed an unthinkable crime against one of her students. The woman is being accused of trying to sell the 13-year-old girl victim for $13,000. According to authorities, the girl was living at a boarding school for orphans and children from broken families. Kovalenko was attempting to sell the girl’s organs in order to receive the $13,000. She was reportedly desperate to pay off some debt, and she thought selling the young girl would be the quickest way to get some cash.

The 52-year-old teacher appeared in court and said someone was trying to set her up, but the man who was attempting to purchase the girl and her organs had already given authorities all the details. The buyer claims Kovalenko promised to provide him with pictures of girl, as well as proof of her good health by supplying him with her medical records. Thankfully, her plan to sell the girl didn’t go too far, and now she’s facing up to 15 years behind bars.
