4. Emma Thompson Felt Like A Failure
Emma did conceive her first child, a girl named Gaia, but when they tried to have their second child, she had quite a difficult time conceiveing. It wasn’t an option, for whatever reason, to adopt. Thompson just really wanted to conceive another child. In fact, she was so determined to have a sibling for Gaia, when she couldn’t conceive another child, she went into a deep depression over it. She tried in vitro fertilization but it never took with her and it left her feeling very guilty as if she was a failure. “After that, we tried to have another child, it didn’t work, and I went into a deep clinical depression,” she says. “It’s only now that I no longer count other people’s children or judge myself harshly for not providing my daughter with a sibling.” That must have been a very difficult experience.
