Nigerian actress and reality TV star, Lilian Afegbai recently opened up about her unexpected encounter with a power outage in South Africa. Despite being accustomed to regular outages in Nigeria, Lilian expressed shock at discovering that South Africa also experiences loadshedding.
During a visit to a cinema, Lilian was amused when the power went out mid-movie. She noted that in South Africa, citizens are informed ahead of time about scheduled loadshedding and the outages affect internet connectivity and network. Unlike in Nigeria, where the network still works even if PHCN takes the light, everything stops working in South Africa once the loadshedding starts.
Lilian also mentioned that unlike Nigeria, homes and residential apartments in South Africa do not use generators, so people rush to charge their phones, iron clothes, do laundry, and complete other tasks requiring electricity before the power goes out.
The actress stressed that every country has its own unique challenges and that it is unfair to criticize Nigeria when other nations are also experiencing similar things. She even admitted to shouting ‘NEPA don bring light’ from her balcony in excitement when power was restored, to the shock of her South African neighbour.
Overall, Lilian’s experience highlights the importance of appreciating the positive aspects of one’s own country and acknowledging that other nations face their own challenges as well.
