About 30 members of the Biafra Zionists Federation (BZF) have been arrested in Enugu State.
They were apprehended by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command at the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu. The agitators had gathered in the area to commemorate Biafra Day.
The group, led by Barr Benjamin Onwuka, had assembled with stickers, Biafran flags, as well as US and Israeli flags. They were subsequently taken into custody and transported in three Police Hilux vehicles to the state police headquarters in Enugu for interrogation.
One of the stickers displayed by the group read: “I Love My Nation Biafra I am proud of Zionist.”
This is not the first time that BZF members have been arrested in Enugu State.
Biafra Day signifies an annual commemorative event observed on May 30th by the people of the former Republic of Biafra. Biafra was a secessionist state that existed in southeastern Nigeria from 1967 to 1970. The day marks the anniversary of the declaration of independence made by the region’s then-military governor, Lt. Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, on May 30, 1967.
