A 25-year-old woman in Kano, Rahama Sulaiman, was arrested by the police for allegedly kidnapping her six-year-old daughter, Hafsat Kabiru, and demanding a ransom of N3 million from her ex-husband.
The incident was reported on May 8th, 2023, when the victim’s father, Kabiru Shehu, informed the police that his daughter was kidnapped.
According to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the victim was later rescued in Madobi LGA, and the suspect confessed to having planned the kidnapping of her daughter.
“In a follow-up investigation, the victim was rescued in Madobi LGA and the wife, who was earlier divorced by the husband, confessed to having planned the kidnapping of her daughter.”
Speaking to newsmen after being paraded, the suspect said, “my ex-husband did not give me money to feed the children for over 10 months so I decided to do that to get money to take care of his children.”
The suspect’s husband, who confirmed that they had reconciled, added that his wife had never done such before.
The CP also disclosed that other criminals, including kidnappers and drug dealers, were arrested during the operation, and over 600 parcels of Indian hemp were recovered.
