A Nigerian philanthropist has raised concerns online after revealing that his elderly father was targeted and defrauded by cyber-fraudsters, commonly known as yahoo boys. The man, identified as @roqzee, expressed his distress as the fraudsters emptied his 69-year-old father’s pension account, which amounted to N200,000.
According to @roqzee, the perpetrators utilized a fake account to deceive his father into disclosing his bank details on Twitter. Seeking assistance, the elderly man reached out to UBA customer care on the microblogging platform. Unfortunately, the fraudsters had created a similar account impersonating the bank, evading suspicion.
Under the impression that he was communicating with UBA customer care, the unsuspecting victim willingly shared his account details and PIN. However, within a short period, N200,000 was swiftly withdrawn from the account, leaving the elderly man devastated.
Roqzee took to Twitter to share the unfortunate incident, stating, “Yahoo boys have cleared my 69-year-old dad’s account with his pension savings. He came to complain to @UBAGroup customer care on Twitter and used a fake Twitter handle, and they asked him for his account details and PIN, which he disclosed. Instantly over 200,000 disappeared 👏🏼 1:0.”
