A 54-year-old man has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death in Calabar South Local Government Area.
The arrest was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar.
According to Ugbo, the suspect attacked the victim, known as Ndereke, after a minor disagreement that took place at Abasi Obori Street on Tuesday.
The arrest was made by personnel from the Uwanse Divisional Police Headquarters in response to a distress call.
The victim was immediately rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) but unfortunately, she did not survive and was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
Her body has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy to determine the exact cause of her death.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be held accountable for his alleged actions. The police spokesperson assured that justice will be served in this case.
