A tragic incident unfolded as a police officer, known as “Freedom,” allegedly caused the death of Adeleye Eniola, an SS1 student of Mayigi Community High School in Ilashe, Ogun State’s Ipokia Local Government Area.
The officer, reportedly attached to the Ilaro Area Command, fatally struck the student with his vehicle while pursuing a motorcyclist, also injuring other students accompanying the deceased.
Expressing outrage, the Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum (IPYF) condemned the officer’s actions as “unprofessional and barbaric.”
Secretary Adeyemi Olusegun criticized the police for apprehending and tear-gassing protesting students grieving their peer’s death.
The group decried the alleged pattern of police misconduct in the area, accusing officers of infringing on citizens’ rights, and demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the involved officer.
Efforts to obtain a response from the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered.
