Nollywood actress, Simi Gold, has taken to social media to deny rumours of her alleged six-month jail time for tampering with new Naira notes during a social event.
On Thursday, February 1, 2024, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, reportedly convicted and sentenced the movie star to six months in prison for the said offense.
The controversy emanate following an incident that occurred on January 28, 2023, at Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos.
Simi Gold was charged with two counts by the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to which the actress pleaded “not guilty” on February 13, 2023.
She was subsequently granted bail on February 15, 2023.
The charges against the screen diva alleged her of tampering with the sum of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) during an event, an act deemed to be in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.
In a recent development, Simi Gold took to her Snapchat to address the rumours.
She wrote;
“Ignore whatever you see online. I am home and safe.”
