An Evboriaria Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ikpoba-Okha, Edo State, had remanded a man identified as Austin Okonkwo, 27, in prison custody for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl who has Down Syndrome.

A one-count charge was brought against him in court during the hearing of the case which he pleaded not guilty to.
According to Vanguard reports, the accused was described with unprintable words when his victim was presented in the court.
Okonkwo committed the crime on Saturday, November 29, 2014, police prosecutor, Aigbedion Obakpolor, told the court at the hearing.
During the case mention, Chief Magistrate Frank Idiake, observed that rape cases were on the high side and he declined the accused bail application.
One of the anonymous relatives of the victim after the court sitting revealed that Okonkwo had lured the Down Syndrome patient to his room on the fateful day where he committed the heinous act.
After the incident, the victim complained of experiencing pains in her private part which led to the suspicion and subsequent arrest of the suspect.
Meanwhile, the court adjourned the case for further trial till January 21, 2015.
