1. Natalie Portman – Brains
Natalie Portman is a hugely successful actress, first starring as a 12-year-old child in the thriller Leon: The Professional. She gained mainstream success after starring as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, as Anakin Skywalker’s love interest. In 2011, she won her first Oscar for Best Actress for her role in the dark drama Black Swan.
There is an often-depicted assumption of Hollywood being full of daft actors, but Portman tears that assumption apart. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Harvard University in 2003, while working as an actress. She is very sharp, and even co-authored two research papers while at Harvard that were published in scientific journals. In 2006, she was a guest lecturer at Columbia University course about terrorism and counterterrorism.
Portman has told the New York Post, “I don’t care if [college] ruins my career. I’d rather be smart than a movie star.” One more reason to love her. She was also the research assistant of prominent scholar Alan Dershowitz while at Harvard. She is a huge animal rights advocate, supporter of same-sex marriage, and is an ambassador of the international charity, Free the Children.
