#5. Christ The King College

It is a secondary school for boys that, at one point, was the best school in Nigeria. CKC Onitsha was founded in 1933 by a group of Irish missionaries led by Archbishop Charles Heerey. The primary mission of this school is to use the Roman Catholic environment and tradition for development of the new generation of Nigerian leaders. Students are assigned to different school houses (dormitories) for sports competition, management and administration purposes. Before the civil war, the houses bore the names of St. Joseph, St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Charles and St. Williams. These days, there are more houses, and they are called Flanagan, Butler, Allagoa, Orjiakor, Mbanefo, Aniogu, Arize, Modebe, Okagbue, Heerey, Azikiwe, Brolly and Tagbo.

It was founded in 1958 by British expatriates, who wanted to offer Nigerian children quality education by British standards. Children can get involved in various sports, arts, debating and so many other things that can help them learn the importance of teamwork, discover their creativity and prepare them for their adult lives.

Loyola Jesuit College is a boarding school, so all of the students have to live on its premises under the supervision of the Society of Jesus members. As of now, the school houses more than 600 students. It is located on a large site in Gidan Mangoro and surrounded by the beautiful nature.

It is a boys-only school, but girls have been also allowed there before the creation of Queen’s College.

The school has four houses that are named after past principals (Nigerian Hogwarts, anyone?). The Hyde-Johnson’s House has red as its primary colour; Panes’ House has blue; Mckee-Wright’s Hose has yellow; and Harman’s House has green.

Kings’ College employs passionate teachers, provides its students with excellent boarding and sporting facilities and offers them exceptional security.

Similarly to Kings’ College, Atlantic Hall has four houses, but in this case they are named after precious stones. Students can be assigned to houses named Topaz, Sapphire, Garnet and Emerald. Each house has a House Parent that is responsible for the kids.

Atlantic Hall is based on Christian faith, but it allows and celebrates all expressions and forms of faith. Students are taught moral values and guided towards finding and developing their talents. The school provides challenging and enriching education that is great for any student.
