Reports indicate that four children have been located alive in a jungle over two weeks after their plane crashed in Colombia.
The children have been identified as Lesly Mucutuy (13), Soleiny Mucutuy (9), Tien Noriel Ronoque Mucutuy (4), and Cristin Neriman Ranoque Mucutoy (11 months old).
The Cessna 206 aircraft, carrying a total of seven individuals, experienced engine failure and issued a distress signal on May 1, 2023, before ultimately crashing in the Amazon.
Unfortunately, three adults, including the pilot and Magdalena Mucutuy Valencia, the mother of the four children, lost their lives in the tragic accident. Their bodies were found within the wreckage of the aircraft.
Initial reports from the Colombian civil aviation authority, responsible for the rescue operation, suggest that the children left the crash site and ventured into the rainforest in search of assistance.
Assisted by skilled canines, search teams discovered partially consumed fruit that the children had relied on for sustenance in the jungle. They also came across makeshift shelters that were likely used by the children.
Photos released by the armed forces depict a pair of scissors, a hair tie, a baby’s bottle, and discarded fruit discovered in the jungle.
President Gustavo Petro hailed the discovery of the children as a moment of immense joy and celebration for the entire nation.
He also expressed gratitude to the military for their unwavering dedication throughout the extensive search operation.
