At an elevation of 5895 meters, Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain as well as the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. The dormant volcano, with its three distinct cones, is a subject of reverence of the local Wachagga people. Kilimanjaro is one of the easiest mountains to climb, despite its elevation. It attracts around 20,000 climbers every year. The Kilimanjaro national park, lying on the lower slopes of the mountain, is rich in biodiversity and home to various species of animals.
