The things that lie within the waters can be very strange and alien indeed, and more often than not, we discover things much larger and much more strange than we would have ever thought could have existed. It seems that the more pollution we put into our water, the more of its denizens we force out of it and onto beaches where people find them. Mysteries abound as we continue to find more and more objects and creatures that we have no way of understanding. The more we change the world around us, the more it reveals its mysteries to us. Unfortunately, we, as humans, must come to grips with the fact that we may never truly understand out own world, and the things that occur within it. 15. The Montauk Monster

In the heat of summer in New York, 2008, a creature that has still yet to be identified washed ashore on a beach near the business district. It quickly attracted a small crowd and rumors quickly began to circulate as a picture of the creature went viral. Since its appearance, there have been many theories ranging from raccoon to dog or large rodent in an attempt to identify the creature, but all attempts to identify the animal come to obstacles regarding body and skeleton structure. To make matters worse, the carcass disappeared shortly after its appearance, making identification all but impossible. Because of this, rumors have spread that the creature had come from an experiment performed at the nearby Plum Island facility. Is this a creature changed by decomposition, or something much more strange? 14. Canvey Island Monster

Washing up on the of Canvey Island, England in 1953 is a creature that has become known as the Canvey Island Monster. Shortly after, in 1954, another carcass was discovered. It had thick, reddish-brown skin, bulging eyes and was about two and a half feet long. The strangest thing about this creature was the fact that it was documented to have two hind legs with horseshoe-like feet that seemed to be build for bipedal locomotion. Though some have speculated that this creature is nothing more than an angler fish, the bipedal legs quickly dismiss this idea. The debate continues, however, as it has been speculated that these legs were simply decomposed fins mistaken for legs. The National Rivers Authority have since deemed this as a previously unknown species. 13. The Roch Ness Monster

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, a rather terrifying monster washed up on the shores of quiet Hollingworth Lake in Rochdale, England. It was described to be a little longer than five feet long with a mouth “bigger than a fist” and full of incredibly sharp teeth. When interviewed, the couple who stumbled upon the creature at first thought it was a crocodile. While the jury is still out on what this creature truly is, some have speculated that this is nothing more than an oddly shaped pike that just so happens to be bigger in size than they normally grow. Even if this is “just” a pike, it is much larger than its species tends to grow, and would still pose a danger to people, as these fish tend to be extremely aggressive. Want to go for a swim? 12. Sakhalin Monster

Another creature washed ashore in Russia in 2006, and has left witnesses and scientists baffled. The creature is estimated to be over twenty feet long and covered in some kind of hair or fur which, as almost everyone knows, is a trait reserved for mammals, not fish. Typically, even sea mammals lack much hair to speak of. When Russian soldiers found the creature, they named it the “Sakhalin Island Sea Wolf.” It did no favors to the attempts to identify the creature that it washed ashore where local indigenous tribes have come to believe that sea creatures called Kami frequent the area. We do know that it has the head and fur of a canine, but it has the skeletal appearance of a large crocodile. Whatever it is, it is just more proof that we know very little about the waters around us. 11. Trunko The Blob

Trunko is a member of the Globster family, which is a general term used for jelly-like, decaying corpses of creatures that wash ashore. Officially sighted in South Africa in 1924, this creature was described as a “Giant, Fish-Like Polar Bear.” The creature was reported to have been seen offshore doing battle with two large killer whales. The trio fought for approximately three hours! Obviously, it was not the victor in that confrontation, and its body washed ashore shortly afterward. Reportedly, it used its tail to strike its attackers and rose from the water about twenty feet. No scientists examined the corpse, so no verified findings have been published on the creature. It is reported having snow-white fur, an elephant trunk and a long lobster like tail. Strangely, it was also reported being completely devoid of blood. 10. The Beast of Tenby

Another mysterious creature having washed ashore in the UK, the Beast of Tenby has since been the source of heated debates about cryptoids and the origins of this mysterious creature. 27-year-old Peter Bailey was walking his dog when he first came across the creature. He described it as having the body of a pig but claws like a bear. Adding to the mystery, it also happens to have what appears to be a beak. Whether truly related or not, it has been brought up on more than one occasion that the Beast of Tenby bears a close resemblance to the Montauk Monster. When people think of things that wash up on shore, they often think of clothing, trash and even the occasional message in a bottle. Much to the horror of those who have come across them, it seems that giant eyeballs have begun washing up on shore throughout the world. Experts that have examined one of the eyeballs in person, as well as those who have examined pictures and video of the eyeball, have come to the conclusion that at least one of them has come from a swordfish. The issue lies in the questions that come from these eyeballs suddenly showing up. Normally, an eyeball would be eaten or decay in the ocean. And the fact that there are more than one suggests something very odd going on. 8. Dead Birds

On the Pacific coast, thousands of birds have begun to wash up on shore, and no one knows why. Normally, small numbers of birds wash ashore as they die in storms and harsh weather conditions, but deaths in this number is an unprecedented occurrence. The birds had shown up all the way from Oregon to southern California, prompting scientists to attempt to look into the situation and try to uncover what is causing it. Even more strange is the fact that the birds are not always of the same species. In fact, four distinct species have shown up en masse, washing ashore in flocks. One explanation is the lack of food for new flocks as they get older. Less food equals more death. Another suggestion is climate change, and this is by far the most evidenced theory so far. 7. The Stronsay Beast

This is the story of yet another globster that washed ashore on the Orkney Islands of Scotland in 1808. The carcass measured nearly sixty feet in length, though part of the tail was missing so it can safely be assumed that the creature was even longer than that. The Natural History Society examined the corpse and could not identify it. Scottish anatomist John Barclay gave it the scientific name Halsydrus pontoppidani, or the Pontoppidan’s sea-snake. Later, another anatomist dismissed all of the stories, claimed that it was much smaller and was simple the decaying corpse of a basking shark. It may never be truly known what this creature is, but the stories of its appearance and debate over its identification continue to circulate the internet to this day. 6. St. Augustine Monster

Yet another globster to have graced the headlines is the St. Augustine Monster. This one, also named the Florida Monster or Giant Florida Octopus, showed up on the coast of St. Augustine Florida in 1896. Though this creature has been dubbed to be an octopus, it does not fit the rules for it to carry this classification according to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. The results after studying the creature read “One arm lying west of the body, 23 feet long; one stump of arm about 4 feet long; three arms lying south of body and from appearance attached to same (although I did not dig quite to body, as it laid well down in the sand and I was very tired), longest one measured over 23 feet, the other arms were three to five feet shorter.” 5. New Zealand Globster

One of the most recent and largest of the globsters is aptly named the New Zealand Globster. It washed ashore on Muriwai, in the Gisborne District of the North Island, New Zealand, in 1968. Just about 30 feet long and about 8 feet high, the creature was covered with matted fur that measured about six inches long and growing out of a tough, rhino-like hide. Whales have been ruled out due to the hair of the creature, as have many of the known giant species that we know swim in the ocean. Chairman of the Zoological Department has stated that even he has no idea what this creature might have been, and its true origins and classification, much like other globsters, remain a mystery to this day. 4. Gambo

A large creature washed up ashore on Bungalow Beach in Gambia in 1983. Owen Burnham, the fifteen-year-old boy who discovered the creature, drew the only known picture of the creature that exists. Due to a superficial similarity, the villagers in the area called it a dolphin. It was decapitated shortly after it was discovered and the head was sold to a tourist. The body was buried, and attempts to find the remains have thus far been unsuccessful. It was about fifteen feet in length, and brown colored on its top and white on the bottom like many sea creatures. Like many strange things that remain unexplained, this creature had a beak like that of a bird. No fin was present on the top of the animal, either. 3. Bermuda Blob

The Bermuda Blob is the name given for another pair of unidentified blob-corpses that washed ashore in Bermuda in the late 1980’s. The first blob, originally found 1988, was about three feet thick, had white, fibrous skin and five arms or legs and was described as “a disfigured star.” Samples of this specimen were examined in 1995 and best guesses say that this is some kind of bony fish. The second was found in 1995 and later, with the help of advanced genetic testing procedures not available when the first corpse was found, it was determined that both contained tissue belonging to whales. Even so, these blobs tend to bring up a lot more questions than they answer. Can you even imagine the awful smell that one of these must exude? 2. Hebrides Blob

Why is the ocean so full of these blobs and why do they always wash ashore? You would think, with as many marine animals that are in the oceans, that these would at the very least get eaten before they hit land. The Hebrides Blob washed up on the Scotland shores in 1990. Even with advanced biological classification techniques, this creature still remains unidentified and unknown. Louise Whitts, who discovered the disgusting tissue, described it as such. “It had what appeared to be a head at one end, a curved back and seemed to be covered with eaten-away flesh or even a furry skin and was 12 feet long [and] it had all these shapes like fins along its back.” Yet another mysterious creature that we may never identify. 1. Shoes Filled With Feet

One of the craziest and most disturbing discoveries ever found to wash up on shore became known as the Salish Sea Foot Discoveries. It all began when people started finding shoes that were washing up on shore. To their horror, they found that these shoes still had feet in them. Between 2008 and 2016, a total of sixteen feet have been found. Of them, some have been identified but several of the feet belong to people that were never found or identified. It is unclear the sex of a few of them as well. Though several hoax feet had been planted, sixteen feet were found and were very real feet belonging to very real people who may now be very real corpses.
