5. The Music
We’re no longer talking about the talented subway performers but of some of the most famous musicians in the world. New York City not only inspired Bob Dylan but it inspired the entire punk rock movement. New York City is also home to hip-hop and is still able to throw it down better than any city. New York is where Clive Campbell “DJ Kool Herc” and MC Coke La Rock first collaborated break beats and Jamaican flavors over 40 years ago. This was the start of hip hop, a music genre that has since dominated the music charts. Big Daddy Kane, Run DMC, The Beastie Boys, Notorious BIG, Wu- Tang Clan, Nas, Jay-Z, ASAP Rocky and Nicki Minaj are just a few of the hip-hop artists to come out of the big apple.
