4. They Re-enforce Premature Sexualisation
“Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins.” Sound familiar? It’s the opening line of Vladimir Nabokov’s famous book Lolita. When the book was published, it caused a great deal of controversy as it told the story of Dolores Haze who is abducted and assaulted by the narrator, Humbert Humbert. Kubrick’s cinematic interpretation greatly impacted American culture by portraying Dolores as a premature, overly-sexualized 14-year-old instead of a regular 12-year-old (as described in the novel).
The Kardashians re-enforce the same problem. Just look at Kendall and Kylie Jenner. They teach young girls to become overtly sexual at a young age and further the objectification of women.
