And that’s exactly the way they want it. The family’s infamous standing as reality TV icons is forever cemented in celebrity status. Their show Keeping up with the Kardashians has provided some insane moments and vital exposure. It also has allowed the Kardashian clan to remain relevant and has aided them in branding themselves in a variety of ways. Khloe Kardashian was introduced to the world as the youngest of the original Kardashian sisters. She was tall and a bit awkward in comparison to older sisters Kourtney and Kim. To start with, Khloe was also much taller than her other sisters. This came in handy when she fell for basketball star, Lamar Odom. Odom was a talented basketball player and was coming off successful seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers in which he was a key part of two title runs. Khloe and Lamar fell in love with one another and their relationship was captured by television cameras on Keeping up with the Kardashians and then their own show, Khloe and Lamar . As is true with many reality show romance casualties, problems slowly but surely begin to surface. As those problems surfaced right before the public, it added pressure on their relationship. Superstitious Proposal Proposals are one of the most sacred moments in a couple’s life. They can occur at almost any moment. A man can plan a beautiful candle lit dinner and go all the way with a romantic showcase. Or, someone can simply be overwhelmed by the moment and drop to a knee. Lamar couldn’t resist expressing his love for Khloe and was overjoyed to explain to her what she meant to him: “I want to hang out forever,” he told Khloe in 2009. “I want to get married right now. We met on the 27th. Your birthday is on the 27th. So we should get married on the 27th…do you remember the last flight I took from New York? Lamar better be careful as candy cravings are a sign of addictive behavior. 9. Swimming Lessons Many people are able to get swim lessons when they are young. Starting at a young age is so much easier than learning things as an adult. So when the Kardashian clan learned that Lamar Odom wasn’t exactly a fish in the water, they went into action, attempting to teach him how to swim. The moments were caught on camera and provided a great deal of hilarity along the way. “I’m so excited that Lamar actually agreed to let me teach him how to swim,” Khloe told the cameras in 2010 before hilarity ensued. Rob Kardashian was the point man and attempting to help Odom float. Odom was anything but a natural in the water as Rob Kardashian struggled to keep the large man from sinking to the bottom of the pool. Maybe leave the lessons to the professionals, Rob. 8. Dentophobia Lamar Odom’s love of candy keeps his belly happy, but his teeth very nervous. He has a big fear of the dentist. The issue was captured on Khloe and Lamar in a comical display. Odom didn’t want to go to the dentist and showed a genuine fear of seeing the mouth doc. Odom stated, “I’m afraid of the dentist because most likely I’m gonna have to get a lot of work done,” the candy lover revealed on KUWTK, prompting his then-sister-in-law Kim Kardashian to quip, “It’s so funny to see such a big man squirm over the word dentist.” The fear came to light because Odom had a toothache and refused to go to the dentist to get it checked. He was throbbing in pain but feared the inevitable…a root canal. 7. Lamar Goes Rogue Lamar Odom had a great deal of success come his way. He also has a great deal of problems. The star basketball player is constantly in the limelight. His kind personality and easy going nature, the money and celebrity that has come his way, have all made him a target for others. Women are constantly available for a man of Lamar Odom’s stature. Despite being happily married to Khloe Kardashian, news quickly began to spread of cheating and drug use. Odom was cheating on Kardashian with a woman named Jennifer Richardson and was addicted to crack cocaine. These revelations proved to be too much for Khloe who started divorce proceedings. Odom, although regretful, was just beginning his decent down a very dark path. 6. The Divorce Divorce can be downright brutal. There is nothing good that comes from a married couple imploding and having to end their marriage. It can be even worse when these things happen on television. The moments Khloe and Lamar spent together on the two reality shows were heartwarming and fun loving. The world fell in love with what appeared to be two kind human beings. But when rumors began to surface that there was trouble in the air, things broke down quickly. The families began to back their own and words started flying behind the scenes. Some of the quotes were picked up and ran in tabloids. Things got nasty very quickly between Khloe and Lamar despite Odom saying very little. Khloe moved on and dated other athletes as Lamar spiraled into a very personal dark place that cost him his health and his basketball career. 5. Daddy Knows Best Lamar Odom’s father, Joe, was none too happy to see and hear reports over his son’s mental state. Joe was upset over the Kardashian’s treatment of Lamar and their ability to spin news stories however they wanted while their son shied away from statements and publicity. With no one to defend Lamar, his father, Joe, stepped up and fired some shots back at the Kardashians. In his interview with RadarOnline.com, Joe said “someone’s got to speak out, I’ve got to do something about this. It’s simple. They (Kardashians) brought him down. He would be better off without them. Let him go and get his life together. I think the best thing for him would be to have a clean break, divorce Khloe and as a single man try and get his life back together.” Joe blames Khloe (and all the Kardashians) for “ruining” Lamar’s life. Internet War: Destiny V Khloe Lamar Odom has a 17-year-old daughter, Destiny from a previous relationship and a 13-year-old son as well. Destiny was also angered at the public shaming that was befalling her emotionally wounded father. She spoke up after Khloe officially filed divorce papers and rushed to her father’s defense. Destiny wrote on her Facebook page that Khloe and Lamar’s relationship was destined for failure. “No one thought they were going to last, so honestly, who [cares].” Khloe fired back with her interview to Cosmopolitan UK. She told Cosmo that she was excited for this year to be over with. Then Khloe hit Instagram and posted some vicious messages about her relationship with Lamar. Destiny and Khloe were firing shots at one another from long distances, but they heard each other loud and clear. 3. The Dodger Soon after Khloe and Lamar split up and divorce proceedings had begun, it was rumored that Kardashian was dating Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers (now with the San Diego Padres). Kemp, the Dodgers star centerfielder at the time, was an all-star and force in the baseball world. News of Kardashian dating another Los Angeles-based athlete didn’t sit well with Odom. A source told Hollywoodlife.com: “Khloe and Matt snuck off at the end of the night and they got to steal a kiss at the Kardashian’s family Christmas party.” The romance may have been short lived (as in just a few hook-ups), because Khloe quickly cooled things down to get her head straight. Essentially, they hit it and quit it. 2. Lamar Odom Overdoses On a fall day in October 2015, Lamar Odom ended up in a Las Vegas brothel, unconscious, a few moments away from death. What is seemingly rock bottom for the former basketball standout, Odom had headed to the rural brothel in the desert to escape the world. Following the death of his close friend and the demise of his marriage, Odom had a lot of drama on his mind. His escape involved cocaine, numerous herbal sexual stimulants and prostitutes. But after a couple days of constant attention, sexual and emotional, Odom ended up on the ground with pink liquid foam coming out of his nose and mouth. He was rushed to the hospital where he was in coma when Khloe (with other Kardashian members) immediately went to his bedside. Odom was seemingly moments away from death as doctor’s frantically attempted to flush his system of the drugs that were killing him. The doctors successfully kept Odom alive, for now, although there is still much to do with the damage he has done to his kidneys. It is reported that upon Odom seeing Kardashian by his side, he professed his love to her. The two displayed that they clearly still have feelings for one another. 1. Khloe Calls Off Divorce Despite Lamar Odom’s romp at a brothel that involved women and drugs, Khloe Kardashian has seized all divorce papers from going through. Odom is still in the hospital and not speaking to the press and the Kardashians have been very tight-lipped about this. Are they going to make another go of it? Kardashian had been dating James Harden but there are reports that Harden allegedly cheated on her with a stripper. To add to the rumor mill, Odom, while still officially married to Kardashian, is on her medical plan. If they remain married, he is covered by what is going to come out to be a very hefty medical bill. Odom’s recovery calls from physical and speech therapies to move past the damage done by his coma. It is not clear how much therapy Odom needs at this point, but Khloe has stated that she will be by his side all the way through. So it appears as though their divorce is officially called off and Khloe and Lamar are about to make another run at marital bliss.
