Whatever the issue may be, celebrities either follow up the controversy by issuing a statement, posing a corrective Instagram photo, or in some cases, taking the photo down completely. While the fame and money that comes with being a celebrity is nice, the risk of anything you post on social media being considered controversial is ridiculous. 18-year-old reality television star Kylie Jenner caused quite a stir when she posted this picture of herself in cornrows back in July. Among those offended was Amandla Stenberg, the actress known for her portrayal of Rue in The Hunger Games . Stenberg called Jenner out in the comments section of the photos by posting: “when u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards your ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.” Kylie responded with: “Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do…. Go hang w Jaden or something.” A few days later, Kendall Jenner posted a picture of herself in cornrows as well, probably as a sign of solidarity to her sister. 8. Gigi Hadid Blasting Body Shamers Fashion model Gigi Hadid took to Instagram to shut down criticism about the fact that she is curvier than most other high-end fashion models. Yes, I want to have a unique walk but I also know I have to improve. No, I’m not the first or the last model of my type in this industry. Sharing what you’re having for dinner may seem innocent but when you’re a famous pregnant super model, this can spark some controversy. Earlier this year, Teigen posted a photo of some pasta she made to eat while watching SNL. People sounded off about the portion size, to which she responded, “I’m not the f**king cheesecake factory.” As if that wasn’t bad enough, shortly after announcing her pregnancy, she posted a picture of bowl of Fruity Pebbles and Cap’N Crunch mixed together, with a caption explaining that she was having cravings. Comments went wild on the poor model, crucifying her eating dyed, artificial food. Teigen responded through a string of sarcastic tweets telling followers that she was going to smoke a cigar, drink vodka, and do other various activities that would be bad for the baby. At least she can joke even when she’s clearly annoyed. 4. Essena O’Neill Declaring Social Media Is Not Real Life Essena O’Neill, the 19-year-old Australian social media star, shocked everyone when she “quit” social media, stating that it is not real life. The statement was deemed inspirational by some and hypocritical by others, who were quick to point out that she had been made famous by social media, the thing that she was now speaking out against. After her declaration of war against social media, the version of one’s self revealed through social media has become a hot button topic. Since quitting social media, she has released several videos detailing the effort with which she created her photos. For Halloween, Miley Cyrus, a former Disney child star, dressed up as Cinderella, or, well, her version of Cinderella. She posted a picture of herself dressed as the princess, with a blunt in her mouth. The caption read: “Cindersmelly high as hell and her bra strap showin.” Cyrus hasn’t been shy about her love of smoking weed but Selena Gomez thought this went too far. A source claimed that Gomez, another star who got her break on a Disney show as well, called this photo “in poor taste” and “disrespectful to Disney.” One thing is for sure, she’s just being Miley – the, uh, new Miley. 2. Kim Kardashian’s Endorsement For Diclegis Kim Kardashian, like many lifestyle and fashion bloggers, makes money off of her Instagram through endorsements. That should come as no surprise. She’s not posting that many pictures of her waist trainer for fun. Apparently, it was not because Instagram removed that photo as well. Teigen, the determined jokester, posted another two photos, one as a pencil sketch and another as a colored pencil sketch.
