Game Of Thrones Season 7 - Oh, what do we do on Sunday nights now that Game Of Thrones is done for the year? We can either latch onto shows like The Walking Dead once that comes around (seriously, was there a better cliffhanger in the history of television than the one we saw during that season finale?) While it sucks to know that in a couple of years we won’t have any more Game Of Thrones to look forward to (unless those prequel series rumors are true), it’s equally good to know that the show won’t overstay its welcome. But that’s two years away. For now, we still have season 7 to look forward to, and at the moment we pretty much have a clear idea of what’s going to happen during that stretch. As of right now, Cersei is the new Queen of the realm, Jon Snow is the new King in the North, and Daenerys Targaryen is sailing towards the Capital with a fleet unlike anything the world of man has seen before. And she has dragons. But the true threat lies beyond The Wall, for Winter has finally come, and with it the promise of the Night King and his army of the undead. We’re nearing the end of arguably the greatest show ever produced for television… and Season 7 will set the stage for what may be the most epic series finale of all time. 21. The Night Is Dark And Full Of Cures Ah, Melisandre. The divisive redhead on Game Of Thrones who has a compulsive tendency to disrobe every so often. The last time she did that though, we were treated to more than we had bargained for, and Game Of Thrones fans the world over said “Please, no more!” in unison. She made quite the debut when she birthed a smoke baby, and really went too far when she ordered for the sacrifice of Princess Shireen, Stannis Baratheon’s daughter. Add to that the fact that Stannis Baratheon was a spineless wimp who had the emotive capabilities of a pine tree, and you had a character who was puppeteering a war that would ultimately lead to Stannis falling flat on his face on the battlefield. After the end of the blockbuster sixth season of the show, however, we’re pretty much left in the dark about Melisandre’s whereabouts, since she was banished from Winterfell by the new King in the North, Jon Snow. Or are we? Another character that seemingly rode off into an unfinished sunset of a storyline was the Lord of the Friendzone himself, Jorah Mormont. While he was pretty keen on waiting out his final days in isolation somewhere, the Mother of Dragons made it very clear that Jorah needed to find a cure for his little Greyscale problem and make his way back into her loving albeit strictly friends-with-zero-benefits embrace. And who do you think has a cure? That’s right, the woman who brought Jon Snow back from the depths of death herself, Melisandre. Also remember that Princess Shireen had Greyscale and was seemingly cured from it, so if anyone can stop the spread of the disease, it’s the “Lady in Red” herself. She finds redemption, he doesn’t turn into The Thing, and they both can gallop back into our peripheral visions on the show. 20. The Cunning Conqueror: Littlefinger’s Big Plans There are not more than a handful of characters on Game Of Thrones who are slimier and creepier than Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish. Yes, he did assist Sansa Stark during the “Battle of the Bastards” and his influence ultimately saved Jon Snow and the wildlings from an ugly demise at the hands of the Bolton army. But then again, Petyr Baelish is the reason the Starks are in this muck in the first place, isn’t he? His manipulations got Ned Stark killed, which is something Sansa has yet to uncover, and he sold Sansa to the putrid Ramsay Bolton knowing full well what that heinous sadist would do to her. If you look at it that way, this was the least Littlefinger could do to even things out. But, we all know Baelish had a plan when he allowed the knights of the Vale to assist Jon Snow in his cause. And his motives were revealed when he proposed to Sansa during the season finale. Baelish has always wanted the Iron Throne, and with Sansa a true heir to Winterfell, his chances have never been higher. But will Sansa bend to his trickery again? The thing about Lady Stark is that she has always been one to admire positions of great power. She has always wanted to be Queen, to rule over the land, and now that Ramsay is the equivalent of a bowl of Pedigree dog slop and Jon is the King in the North, her heart once again aches to have great, unbridled power over everything. And Petyr Baelish has already set his plans in motion by asking her if she’d rather see an illegitimate Stark rule over Winterfell. How will Baelish maneuver his way around the fact that Jon is actually the son of Lyanna Stark, if the message were to ever get out? And how will Baelish slither is way into Sansa Stark’s future? For better or worse, the devious Littlefinger is here to stay, and his presence will set the course for a great many events in Season 7 of Game Of Thrones . 19. Jaime Vs Cersei: Rise Of The Valonqar It was bound to happen sooner or later. Jaime Lannister is really a nice guy deep down, underneath all that “Kingslayer” stuff. I mean, once you take away the fact that he has the hots for his sister… and that stuff with Ned Stark being killed… and that other time when he… …okay you know what, he’s an a**hole, but he’s a relatively good one compared to a lot of other people on the show. Okay fine… maybe not even then, but we like Jaime for some reason so just run with it, alright?! Geez. Anyway, the fact that they’ve hinted so much at Jaime’s unwavering love for his sister throughout Season 6 is proof enough that the tides will turn against Cersei in Season 7. Jaime’s return to King’s Landing was not a pleasant one. Not only did he see the Citadel in ruins, he also watched his sister ascended to the Iron Throne, something she has feverishly desired since day one. The Kingslayer probably pieced together the fact that his third and final son is dead, meaning whatever remained of Cersei’s contorted ability to love and feel compassion went with up in ashes with the young king. Now a Mad Queen lusting for more power than the Iron Throne can possibly deliver, Cersei will isolate herself from Jaime as well, leaving the door open to the great “Valonqar” theory. Loosely translating to “younger brother”, Maggy the Frog’s prophecy states that the “Valonqar” will put an end to Cersei. While we’re assuming it’s either Tyrion or Arya who will take on the mantle, it’s only fitting that the only remaining person Cersei could ever truly love puts an end to her tyrannical reign of terror once and for all. 18. A Stark Reunion At Winterfell The great Circle of Life will finally be complete. Everything that we’ve seen in Season 6 leads up to this one much-earned moment by the fans; a reunion of the Starks (or whatever is left of them) in their home of Winterfell. Bran Stark and Meera are already on the path to Winterfell, being led there by yet another member of the great Stark clan, Uncle Benjen. And then there’s Arya Stark, who for all intents and purposes, will pass Winterfell on her rampage-driven road to seeking all-out vengeance on those who slaughtered her family. Upon seeing the Stark banner on the stronghold again, there’s no doubt that Arya will finally return to her family. But a Stark reunion means so much more than just a few hugs and kisses. It means we’ll see a meeting between the original badass, Arya Stark, and the new badass on the block, Lyanna Mormont! Just wrap your head around that scene for a second! It also means we’ll see tensions between Arya and Sansa, because we all remember how gung-ho Sansa was about marrying into royalty in Season 1. Not to mention, Sansa is on Arya’s list. Yikes. Also, there’ll be time for sadness. The remaining Starks will be forced to remember all they’ve lost, from their parents to Robb Stark, to their direwolves and Hodor, and finally poor Rickon Stark. And of course, we’ll have to see how everyone deals with Brandon being the Three-Eyed Raven now. How’s that party trick going to play out at the dinner table? Awwwkwaard. 17. The Hound Vs The Mountain The Hound is back and he’s ready to kick some ass. Or, you know, jam an axe up someone’s groin. And whose groin are we hoping he goes after? The Mountain! That came out wrong, but you get my point. A poet when it comes to language of the cuss kind, The Hound hates his brother with every living fiber in his being. Now that Gregor Clegane is a Frankenstein monster of some sort ready to do all of Cersei’s bidding without question, there’s no doubt that a battle between the towering colossus that killed Oberyn Martell will come face to face with the rogue butcher of Westeros, Sandor Clegane! Now, there’s no motive for The Hound to go up against Cersei because as we all know, he couldn’t give less of a sh*t about the Iron Throne and whatnot, but there’s a little someone who has a bone to pick with the Queen. Yes, Arya Stark has a list, and Cersei is on it. And there’s no way the show will go on without a reunion between The Hound and Arya, so he might as well escort her himself to King’s Landing in an attempt to help her exact vengeance on the Lannister matriarch. That’s when Gregor will get in the way, and that’s when Sandor will step in to settle this rivalry for good, and that’s when we’ll ring the bell as the Cleganebowl finally gets underway! 16. Daenerys Vs Cersei: Battle For The Throne There’s a storm coming to King’s Landing. No, it’s not an ice storm. In fact, it’s the direct opposite. Leading the most brutal battalion known to man is none other than Daenerys Targaryen, and she brings with her the promise of fire and blood in the form of relentless warriors and three gargantuan winged serpents. The time has finally come for the Mother of Dragons to meet Cersei Lannister, and things will not go well when it happens. While we all know that Daenerys’ offense will not be immediate due to a few distractions that will pop up in her way (more on that later), she’s definitely closer than ever to realizing her destiny as the true heir to the Iron Throne. If or not she succeeds to conquer it, and at what cost, remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain… the path is clear and a meeting between these women of abundant power and drive is inevitable. It could happen at the start of the season, or the showrunners could make us wait for the epic season finale, but one way or the other, the core of Season 6 revolves around the march of Daenerys Targaryen and her alliance towards the Citadel to take from Cersei what she treasures most, the Iron Throne. 15. Jon Snow’s Finds Out About His Bloodline For 17 years, fans of George R.R. Martin’s epic series of books have wondered if their R + L = J theory held any water, and if Jon Snow was indeed the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. In the grand finale of Season 6, it was confirmed that Jon Snow is indeed a Stark, and his mother is none other than Ned Stark’s sister, Lyanna. But what of his father? While it’s pretty much a given that Jon’s father comes from the Dragon bloodline, we’ll have to once again wait and see how things pan out in Season 7 when it finally premieres in 2017. Was Rhaegar a vile and torturous person like some say he was, or did Lyanna elope with him because they were in love? And what about Jon’s mother? How will things change once Jon knows that he was, all the while, a true Stark like the rest of his family and not an illegitimate child like he was made to believe all these years. Brandon Stark knows the truth, and now all that’s left is a reunion of the brothers for all to be revealed. It also begs the question… what happens when Jon Snow realizes he has Targaryen blood in him? Where does that put him in terms of being King in the North? He’ll obviously no longer be a White Wolf, but what’s next? So many questions, and no answers just yet. 14. Brienne–Tormund–Jaime: Love Triangle Just admit it, you love the perversely flirtatious advances made by Tormund Giantsbane towards Brienne of Tarth! It’s how all romantic comedies start… except without the giants and dragons and undead armies and the heinous stench of death all around them. But still, wouldn’t we want to see these two get it on in a really weird love-hate fling? No? Just me, then? Alright whatever, you people are dullards. Anyway, I’m pretty sure Brienne is going to bang Tormund’s brains silly, but she also has a thing for Jaime Lannister, remember? Unless that little wave they sent each other as Brienne was rowing away from Riverrun was a final goodbye between both characters, I’m betting there’ll be some love triangle drama when Brienne, Tormund, and Jaime are in the same room. And no, it won’t turn into a threesome, get your mind out of the gutter and don’t you dare think that of Brienne, you hear me! She’s a lady! Either Season 6 has capped off the Jaime-Brienne-love-that-never-was saga or, as I’m hoping, we’ll see Brienne choose between the two. But because it’s Game Of Thrones , she’ll probably be saved from actually making a decision because one of them will die before the season is over. Yay. 13. Arya’s Checklist: A Girl Has A Name Arya is on a revenge-driven rampage right now, and if the Faceless Men of Braavos couldn’t channel her rage, I doubt anything else can. She’s coming to avenge her family, and she’s doing it in bloodthirsty fashion. But Arya’s story isn’t simple. She’s connected to a web of events that may or may not be a distraction to her. For better or worse, Arya is linked to Jaqen H’ghar and the faceless god, and who’s to say that he won’t show up again in Season 7? We don’t know if his plan was to set her on this path from the very beginning, or if her actions have angered the Faceless Men. Also, won’t it be interesting to find out just who these Faceless Men are? Will they lend their stealthy warriors to Arya’s cause? Arya’s storyline is important because right now she’s a rogue element in the series that isn’t defined by the war at hand. She’s a wildcard, throwing a wrench into everyone’s plans without caution, which for better or worse f*cks everyone’s plans up. Either way, Season 7 will focus on Arya’s merciless adventures just to see who she allies herself with, and whose throat has the unfortunate destiny of meeting her trusty blade. 12. Tyrion’s Ascension Tyrion Lannister has always been a central character on Game of Thrones and as of right now, his arc is ascending towards a place of great power at the side of Daenerys Targaryen. Once mocked as “the imp”, Tyrion has been through the hoops and is now returning to settle a score with his sister for having him banished in the first place. But that’s not all there is to the fan-favorite Tyrion Lannister. There’s also the rumor that he could be of the Targaryen bloodline. Take into account the fact that Drogon’s siblings left him unharmed, the prophecy of three dragon riders still lingers, and Tyrion’s story of how he has always been fascinated with the winged beasts, and there’s a very real possibility that we’re on the verge of a reveal that rivals that of Jon Snow’s mother’s identity. But, even if Tyrion isn’t revealed to be a Targaryen, his reunion with siblings Jaime and Cersei is inevitable, and when that happens it could either end with Tyrion being in grave danger, Jaime taking Tyrion’s side and incurring Cersei’s wrath, or the youngest Lannister finally getting his vengeance by toppling Cersei’s empire. Either way, it’s bound to be extremely exciting, and Tyrion’s storyline will be central in the upcoming season of Game Of Thrones . 11. Bran Stark Finds His Purpose One of the things that kicked off this whole saga was when Jaime Lannister pushed Brandon Stark off the ledge of a tower when Bran popped in on the Lannister siblings going to town on each other. Ugh. Since then, Bran’s journey has not been without hurdles, but at the end of Season 6, the youngest of the remaining Starks is more powerful than ever and has taken control of his warging abilities to see through time and gain knowledge of his family’s shrouded past. But what is the true purpose of the Three-Eyed Raven? What is Bran Stark supposed to do and where does he fit into all of this? The knowledge that he carries of Jon Snow’s birth could potentially cause a seismic shift in the series, turning the tides awry and forever altering the path Jon must now take in order to realize his true destiny. But that can’t be all Bran has to do. Remember, the Night King was able to touch Bran during the warging session. This means that Bran’s fate is now, for better or worse, tied to the Night King and his army of the undead. How Bran deals with this problem, and how his ultimately ends up when the dust settles in Westeros, remains to be seen. 10. Death Of A Dragon As we’ve seen in Game Of Thrones time and time again, no one is safe from the cruel hand of fate in this series. Men have died, women have died, giants have died, and direwolves have died. It only makes sense that dragons can and will die, too, so be prepared to see that happen. The world of men rid themselves of dragons once, and they’re likely to do it again once war comes to King’s Landing. Keep in mind that Cersei’s Igor of sorts, Qyburn, hid stockpiles of Wildfire underneath the Citadel, and there’s no telling if he has more in store for enemies both known and in the shadows. Can Wildfire be used against Drogon and his siblings? We’re likely to find out. But it doesn’t take magic to hurt a dragon. Weapons made of steel can take down the winged monsters as well, and with the Lannister army at Cersei’s bidding, there’s no reason why at least one of Daenerys’ dragons won’t go down in a fight. There’s also the theory of an Ice Dragon being in the mix, although some have argued that this has nothing to do with Game Of Thrones but stems from one of George R.R. Martin’s other titles. The general consensus is that The Night King will resurrect one of Daenerys’ fallen dragons and ride it himself, which is one of the most terrifying albeit badass outcomes I can think of. 9. The Night King Explained Who is The Night King, really? Cold, merciless, and a threat unlike anything the world of men is truly prepared for, we have yet to learn any real information about the dreaded lord of the undead, he who moves in the fog and beckons the icy storm at his will, The Night King. The series has been skimmed and the world is now smaller than it once was. Only large clans have survived and we know all about the pasts of most of our central characters. It only makes sense that Season 7 finally focuses on the White Walkers and who they truly are, and what they’re really after. We were given hints at the origins of the Walkers in Season 6 and how they were created by the Children of the Forest out of fear of the armies of men… but how did it get out of hand? Is the Night King after the Iron Throne as well, or does he intend to bring total annihilation to all those inside the Wall by bringing the fury of Winter with him? At this moment, we have no answers, but from what we’ve seen so far, the only real horde left to focus on in Season 7 is The Night King and his army of necro-soldiers. What is the true extent of his power? What does he need the babies for? Will be finally eradicate all of Westeros? Season 7 is bound to answer at least some of these pending questions. 8. The War In The North: Jon Snow Vs The Night King Speaking of The Night King, winter has finally come to the world, and with it the threat of an enemy unlike anything anyone has seen before. With Bran Stark literally opening a doorway for The Night King to pass, and the omen of winter here at last, the White Walkers will finally begin to make their move onto the realm, and the first people they’ll set their icy gaze upon are the Starks up in the North. It’s a showdown that has been hinted at before. Jon Snow, the new King in the North, will once again come face to face with his immortal adversary, The Night King, and this time there’ll be nothing stopping the army of the undead from wanting to tear Winterfell apart in their rampage. If or not that is the intention of the Walkers remains to be seen, but a war in the North is bound to happen. There’s also the very real possibility that the White Walkers could be defeated even before they make their way across the world to King’s Landing, if that is indeed their purpose. For all we know, the threat of the undead could end with Jon Snow putting an end to them. Does this mean we’ll never get to see dragons versus zombies? Well, we still might, if the rumor of dragons under Winterfell is to be believed. That way, Jon Snow could summon the dragons with his Targaryen bloodline, or Bran could wag into one of them, thereby putting an end of the threat of the White Walkers once and for all. 7. A Rogue Stark: Sansa Vs Jon All is not well in Winterfell, at least not underneath the surface of things. Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish is a manipulative bastard, and his words have already begun to take hold of Sansa Stark’s psyche. Does she demand her place as the true heir to Winterfell, or will she allow a supposed illegitimate prince to rule over her homeland? Sansa has always been attracted to power and glory, and now that things have smoothened out for her and her ex-husband is dog chowder, there’s no reason for her to sit back and allow others to bask in the limelight. Simply put, she’s not a helpless little child anymore. Tensions are definitely brewing, as was shown in last season’s finale, and we may see Sansa Stark leaving Winterfell in order to secure a worthier seat; the Iron Throne. With the formidable knights of the Vale at Baelish’s command, there’s no reason why Sansa wouldn’t rebel against not only Winterfell, but also the current Queen, Cersei. Add to this the fact that Arya Stark isn’t really on good terms with Sansa thanks to her not speaking out during Ned Stark’s trial and subsequent punishment, there’s every reason to believe that Sansa will ally herself with Baelish to seek greater powers… that is, until Sansa realizes that Baelish was instrumental in the execution of her father. What really bothers me about this is that Sansa may have to marry Baelish in order to secure their allegiance with one another, and I can’t think of a grosser outcome. 6. Unholy Alliances Speaking of rogue Starks and rebellious members of the family, there are bound to be some twists and turns once Season 7 comes around. As is with Game Of Thrones , nothing is as it seems and sooner or later, sh*t always manages to hit the fan. While everything seems peachy now with Daenerys and her alliance barraging towards Queen Cersei’s kingdom, there are bound to be traitors and those with ulterior motives who will switch sides and form their own dangerous armies in order to secure the coveted throne. It might not be anyone on Deanery’s side, but the Starks may be forced to make alliances with those whom they are uncomfortable with in order to form a formidable battalion. Sansa Stark may form an army of her own and fight against her family in order to succeed. Or, some of the families could align themselves with Euron Greyjoy and his fleet if they see fit. This could go any other way. The point is, unholy alliances will be formed. For all we know, the Wildlings could end up serving The Night King. Hey, so could the Starks or some of the Nothern houses. It’s a dirty game and they’re all playing it, so don’t be surprised to see some of your favorite characters make questionable choices before the season wraps up. 5. Dragons Unite: Jon Snow Meets Daenerys Targaryen Of all the highly-anticipated meetings between characters on Game Of Thrones, none ranks higher than the meeting of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. One proceeds to King’s Landing with such ferocity and precision, while the other is still lost in a shroud of uncertainty pertaining to his bloodline. But the time will come when these two forces, the prophesized songs of ice and fire, come face to face on the show, and it’ll be a moment that fans will not soon forget. If or not Daenerys and Jon form an alliance or go to war against each other remains to be seen. But what is certain is that Season 7 will either build towards this epic meeting of two characters who are supposedly Azor Ahai reborn, or we will actually see the two of them on screen before the season comes to an end. Just thinking about it gives me chills. Of course, the meeting itself brings about an array of issues with it. For one, who is really “The Prince Who Was Promised”? And is it the same figure as Azor Ahai? There’s an assumption that the Lord of Light brought Jon Snow back from the dead for him to realize a certain destiny. But it’s equally compelling that Daenerys possesses divine-like immunity towards fire, and is without a doubt, the Mother of Dragons. So how will this play out? The answers lie in Season 7. 4. The Wall Collapses Literally the only thing standing in between the world of men and the ravenous horde of the undead is the great Wall. Said to be made of ice and ancient magic, the Wall protects the realm of men from the dark forces that dwell beyond it. But… the Wall isn’t indestructible. A mythical object called the Horn of Joramun is said to have the power to breach the wall, causing it to collapse, thereby exposing the Realm to threats unlike anything they’ve encountered for many centuries. Also known as The Horn of Winter, the horn is an item of legend that was supposedly first blown by Joramun, a wildling King Beyond the Wall, in order to awaken “giants from the earth”. No one in current times known if the ancient horn is real or even exists, but the show has alluded to it before. Remember the pile of trinkets and armor Grenn and Sam found that had shards of dragonglass in it? There was a horn among those items, but it was broken. While this could have been a clever Easter egg on the show for fans of the book series, there’s no reason why they’d throw something of such significance in there without having it mean something. Thus, it isn’t too farfetched to believe that the Horn will play a part in bringing down The Wall once and for all. But, in the event that the horn is irrelevant on the televised incarnation of the story, there will be other ways to bring the great barrier to ashes. One way or another… winter is here, and it is pissed off, and The Wall will be the first to feel its unfiltered fury when Season 7 dawns. 3. Revenge Of The Red Vipers Game Of Thrones has scarred many fans in many different ways. Do your first shocking moment on the show? Was it the ever-popular Ned Stark scene? Was it the Red Wedding? That one had fans screaming, didn’t it? For me, it was when Oberyn Martell took on The Mountain in one-on-one combat… and lost. That scene, you know the one, was horrific and one of the most uncomfortable sequences to witness on the show. Nevertheless, Oberyn’s legacy didn’t just fade away into obscurity. While The Mountain is probably stronger than ever thanks to the tinkering of that creepy ol’ Qyburn, Oberyn’s avengers have made their message very clear as well. They’re coming to take from Cersei every little thing that she holds dear, and they’ve aligned themselves with a fleet that will sweep King’s Landing like a hurricane. It’ll be fun to see Ellaria Sand and her “Sand Snakes”, the bastard daughters of The Red Viper himself, come face to face with Cersei and her bulky companion. I won’t lie, I’ve waited for this moment for a long time, and just knowing that there’ll be a chance for Ellaria to seek vengeance on the ones who killed Oberyn makes me a very happy fan. Granted, she may go out the same way Oberyn did, but that’s a story for another day. 2. Euron Greyjoy: A Dragon’s Appetizer Okay, so while everyone’s gung-ho and on their way to the Capital, everyone’s favorite creepy uncle, Euron Greyjoy, is probably still building ships back at the Iron Islands. What’s he waiting for… the next Winter? While Euron was “waking up” from his anticlimactic drowning ceremony on his own sweet time, Yara and Theon Greyjoy were already halfway across the world making powerful alliances with Queens who own goddamn dragons! Dragons, Euron… dragons! Now, let’s not underestimate Euron here. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m sure he’ll pop up somewhere in Season 7 and turn into a distraction for Daenerys and her fleet. He’ll take down a few ships, probably kill a character or two, and stall the Mother of Dragons for a few episodes. I’m guessing either Yara or Theon will not live to see the assault on Cersei’s armies, which is a shame, but if I had to pick one I’d say Theon’s moment of redemption is at hand and since he was such an epic a**hole before, it’s rather him than Yara. Make no mistake about it though… Euron isn’t going to be anything more than a dragon’s breakfast. He’s going down, and fast, but the point is he’ll be a key element in the story that stalls the Khaleesi’s fleet long enough for the story to twist and turn in other directions. It sucks, but it’ll be fun to see him turn into dragon chow that’s for sure! 1. Knowledge Is Power: Sam’s Library Holds The Key I didn’t think I’d ever see anyone happier to see books than Belle in Beauty and The Beast, but in comes Samwell Tarly on the season finale of Game Of Thrones and he looks happier to see a library than he was when Gilly mounted him. Okay, no… now that I think about it he was shocked with happiness when that happened so maybe he likes her a little bit more. Anyway, Sam’s ascension to the path of becoming a maester is pivotal to the show because history is the key to solving the problems of the future. The past is a major element on the series, as displayed by Bran’s ability to warp his consciousness through time. Sam having access to this library means that he’ll discover secrets of a time long gone that will determine the fate of the entire Realm. There’s probably clues in there to Jon Snow’s father, the truth behind Cersei’s three children, and loads more. While a library in the midst of a great war may not sound like the most exciting thing in the world, it’ll be fun to see what secrets good ol’ Samwell discovers along the way, and how he’ll play a part in finally helping his friend Jon Snow out. Also remember that Samwell has Valyrian steel with him, so that’s bound to have some significance. I guess this is where we cap things off for potential Season 7 storylines. I’ll leave you with an interesting bit of trivia. Did you notice the chandelier in the great library? Does it look familiar? Now, do you remember the axis that spins too close to the camera during the show’s opening sequence? Aaaah, you’ve connected the dots. What if all the events on Game Of Thrones are a retelling based on the books in the great library?
