The 8 new universities approved by Federal government – Tuesday, November 2, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) met and approved eight new private universities. This brings the number of private varsities in Nigeria to 69. Professor Anthony Onwuka who is the minister of state for education, told journalists that the approval was based on recommendation of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He also explained that each of the universities was given a three-year provisional licence and would be mentored by an older university. Below are the approved universities and their locations:
1. Anchor University
Anchor university will be located in Ayobo, Lagos state. The university is owned by popular church, Deeper Christian Life Ministry under their overseer Pastor W. F. Kumuyi.
The university is to be mentored by the University of Lagos.
There are five faculties in the university:
– Faculty of Art
– Faculty of Education
– Faculty of Social Science
– Faculty of Humanities
– School of Management and Accounting.
