5. Byberry Mental Asylum
This is also considered another haunted and most terrifying place of the world and comes to number five on the list. The Philadelphia State Hospital at Byberry, or known simply as Byberry, was the poster image for patient maltreatment. This hospital was founded in 1907, and known as the Byberry Mental Hospital. The terrifying aspect of this location is not so much it’s haunting or the unsavory character that lurked after dark.
The basic terror here comes from the facts of the how hospital was run. Human excrement lined hallways, which were also where many patients slept. The staff was abusive, and frequenclty exploited and harassed patients. One patient had a tooth pulled without Novocaine, while another killed and dismembered a female patient. Charles Gable, the killer, was never found, however, the victim’s body was found strewn across the property.
