4. Trusted News Anchor Brian Williams LIES About Experience In Iraq
In March of 2003, Brian Williams, anchor of NBC Nightly News, first told the story of how he was aboard a helicopter in Iraq that was hit and forced down by rocket-propelled grenade. Since then, he has told the story many times, it becoming one of the most popular in his annals. He repeated it once again in 2015 at the NBC coverage of a public tribute for a retired soldier at a Rangers Game. Crew members on the 159th Aviation Regiment’s Chinook, which actually was hit, heard the story (again; it wasn’t the first time) and told Stars and Stripes that Williams had arrived on the scene only about an hour later in a helicopter that had most certainly not been hit. Brian Williams fessed up that he may have been mistaken and attributed his ‘mistakes’ to a “fog of memory.” He lost most of his credibility, an anchor’s bread and butter.
