4. Robert Johnson
Here comes another member of the elite Club 27 – the blues legend Robert Johnson, who died of poisoning in 1938. Johnson really wanted to become an amazing blues guitarist, but he kinda sucked at it. Until one night, he blues’d like no-one ever blues’d before. He literally learned, nay, mastered the guitar overnight! And of course, when asked “how” Johnson said he had met the devil at a crossroad. Allegedly, the big red guy used his uncanny ear to tune the strings of Rob’s guitar, and blessed him with superb talent… in exchange for his soul, naturally. Who knows, maybe that’s how the devil operated back in the day.
