The film was released worldwide on 16 December 2016. Plot: The Wedding party follows the shenanigans that go on during the planning of a wedding in Nigeria. Dunni, a 24 year old art gallery owner and only daughter of her parents, Engineer Bamidele and Mrs Tinuade Coker, is about to marry the love of her life, IT entrepreneur Dozie, the handsome son of Chief Felix and Lady Obianuju Onwuka. The couple took a vow of chastity and are looking forward to a ground -breaking first night together as a married couple. Between matchmaking attempts on the bridal train, a wedding planner on a mission to succeed, the unruly behaviour of some ‘village’ guests much to Tinuade’s horror, Dunni's uncertainty about her new husband's faithfulness during the time of their courtship, amidst colourful aso-ebi, eclectic music, small chops, and souvenir drama, we begin to wonder whether Dunni and Dozie will get through their wedding reception unscathed. 2. A Trip to Jamaica (Box office ₦178,500,000) A Trip to Jamaica is a Nigerian comedy drama film directed by Robert Peters, starring Ayo Makun, Funke Akindele, Nse Ikpe Etim and Dan Davies. The film received mainly mixed to negative reviews from critics, however, it was a huge box office success, breaking the earlier record set by 30 Days in Atlanta. It had its worldwide premiere on September 25, 2016 in Lagos State. The event also featured a celebrity football game involving ex-internationals, like Kanu Nwankwo, Jay Jay Okocha, Peter Rufai, Joseph Yobo and Stephen Appiah. The film tells a story about the adventures of a newly engaged couple in their relatives residence outside Nigeria, and how the secrets of their host led to the eventual breakup of their union amidst the culture shock of the new country and living with upper-class citizens. Plot: The film starts with an Akpors (Ayo Makun) proposing to Bola (Funke Akindele) on phone through a live telecast during the annual Lagos Countdown. Bola accepts the marriage proposal and the newly engaged couple decides to travel overseas for pre-wedding Honeymoon. On getting to United States, they were received by Bola sister, Abigail (Nse Ikpe Etim) and her husband, Michael Rice (Dan Davies). On arriving at Davies home, they were in awe about the magnificent mansion they were to start living in. Bola observes that Abigael doesn't seem too happy living with her husband. She inquired about it, but Abigael hesitated and didn't give any reason for her mood. It was later revealed that Michael was a drug baron, who was on the run from a mafia group in a cartel. On discovering that his location has been compromised, Michael relocates his family to Jamaica. Akpors and Bola associates with the natives of Jamaica expressing culture shock on the way they view and do things. They both also have love new interests. 3. 30 Days in Atlanta (Box office ₦137,200,000) 30 Days in Atlanta is a 2014 Nigerian romantic comedy film produced by Ayo Makun and directed by Robert Peters. The film was shot on location in Lagos and Atlanta. It premiered on 31 October 2014. It has been declared the highest grossing film of all time in Nigerian cinemas, although the film was met with mixed to negative critical reception. Plot: In the city of Lagos, Warri-based Nigerians, Akpors (Ayo Makun), an impulsive but funny young man and his more reserved, learned cousin, Richard (Ramsey Nouah), an I.T. consultant are invited to a luxurious real estate showcase party sponsored by a businessman and realtor, Dr. Johnson Adetola Briggs (Majid Michel) with his wife (Juliet Ibrahim) in new Lekki Gardens Estate, Lagos. Akpors unexpectedly wins a 30-day prize trip to Atlanta, U. S. A. for a couple in the raffle draw. Akpors decides to go with his cousin on the trip. 4. Fifty (Box office ₦94,030,500) Fifty is a 2015 Nigerian romantic drama film released on December 18, 2015. Plot: Fifty captures few pivotal days of four women at the pinnacle of their careers. Tola, Elizabeth, Maria and Kate are four friends forced at midlife to take inventory at their personal lives, while juggling career and family against the backdrops of the neighbourhoods of Lagos. Tola is a reality TV star whose marriage to lawyer Kunle never stood a chance thanks to an invidious family secret. Elizabeth is a celebrated obstetrician whose penchant for younger men has estranged her from her daughter. Maria, a forty nine-year old has an affair with a married man that results in an unexpected pregnancy and Kate's battle with a life-threatening illness has plugged her into religious obsession. 5. '76 (Box office ₦72,400,000) '76, formerly Lions of '76, is a 2016 Nigerian historical fiction drama film produced by Adonaijah Owiriwa and Izu Ojukwu and directed by Izu Ojukwu. It stars Ramsey Nouah, Chidi Mokeme, Rita Dominic and Ibinabo Fiberesima. Set six years after the civil war, a young officer from the Middle Belt gets into a romantic relationship with an O-level student from the South-eastern region. However, their relationship is strained by constant military postings. The soldier gets accused of being involved in the 1976 unsuccessful military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed, and the heavily pregnant wife, gets entangled in an emotional dilemma. The historical account in '76 went through a seven-month approval period at the Nigerian Military before filming started. The film which is set in the '70s was shot in Ibadan, Oyo. Wives on Strike (Box office ₦71,300,000) Cast: Uche Jombo, Chioma Akpotha, Ufuoma Mcdermott, Kehinde Bankole, Kalu Ikeagwu, Julius Agwu, Kenneth Okonkwo, Omoni Oboli, Peggy Ovire. On watching the trailer of “Wives On Strike”' it's hard to get what the aim of the movie is exactly - a group of women who starve their husbands of sex in a bid to gain what? Director/producer Omoni Oboli creates a funny and comical movie full of wit, and a meaningful message targeted at Nigerian citizens. “Wives On Strike” which was filmed two years ago should have no trouble finding an audience as the film adopts the use of Pidgin English which presents the dialogue of the actors in such a way everyone can understand it. “Wives On Strike" uses humour to pass across clear messages. It gestures at taking action against underage marriages and the need for women to speak up more. The Child Rights Act which was passed in 2003 is explained in a way Nigerians from all walks of life can understand it. Oboli could have produced this film as a deep drama instead she adopts a comical view in which as you roar with laughter watching the “Wives On Strike”, a powerful message about child-brides and standing up for what is right sinks into your consciousness. 7. Half of a Yellow Sun (Box office ₦60,000,000) Half of a Yellow Sun is a 2013 Nigerian historical fiction drama film directed by Biyi Bandele and based on the novel of the same name by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The film is a love story that follows two sisters who are caught up in the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War. It stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Onyeka Onwenu, Anika Noni Rose, Genevieve Nnaji, OC Ukeje and John Boyega. The film premiered in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival Plot: During the mid-to-late sixties, twin sisters Olanna (Thandie Newton) and Kainene (Anika Noni Rose) return to Nigeria after their education in England, they make decisions that shock their family.
