Many of them, just like their colleagues in other parts of the world are ‘mourning’ and saying it is just a payback for an eight-year rule by President Barack Obama, a black man, just as Trump’s supporters have continued to celebrate.
The Telegraph reports Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron as saying “there was a ‘real tension’ at the London embassy.”
The NBC NEWS reports also that Norbert Roettgen, a member of Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and head of the German parliament’s foreign affairs committee, said: “We’re realizing now that we have no idea what this American president will do if the voice of anger enters office and the voice of anger becomes the most powerful man in the world.”
The report also quoted the French ambassador to the US, Gerard Araud, as saying in on Twitter: “After Brexit and this election, everything from now on is possible. A world is collapsing before our eyes. Vertigo.”
“It’s the end of an era, that of neoliberalism. What will succeed it, is yet to be known.”
The report said both tweets were later deleted. Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, also said on Twitter: “Looks like this will be the year of the double disaster of the West.”
Chinese-run Xinhua News Agency, reportedly said Trump’s victory is a sign of America’s democracy in crisis while the official Communist Party newspaper, People’s Daily, believes that the 2016 race revealed an “ill democracy.”
It is believed, according to the report, that like Russia, China favours Trump because he appears less willing to confront China’s newly robust foreign policy, particularly in the South China Sea.
Reports further said Argentina’s foreign minister, Susana Malcorra, believes that a Trump win would stall recent moves to improve relations between the countries while Trump’s tendencies could pitch him against many countries.
In his reaction, Democratic activist, Van Jones, was quoted as saying: “This was a white-lash against a changing country. It was a white-lash against a black president, in part.
“And that’s the part where the pain comes. And Donald Trump has a responsibility tonight to come out and reassure people that he is going to be the president of all the people who he insulted and offended and brushed aside.”
