A great wrestler has to combine speed, technique, agility and strength, but sheer Herculean power can get you pretty far all by itself. Great Antonio A legitimate two-time Guinness record holder -- for pulling a 433-tonne train nearly 20 meters and four full city buses -- Antonio also forayed into the world of wrestling. He's best remembered for a disastrous match he had with another Antonio: Antonio Inoki, the ace of New Japan Pro Wrestling. Despite outweighing his opponent by at least two hundred pounds and being one of the strongest humans alive, Great Antonio's decision to shoot on Inoki did not work out in his favor. After playing along for several minutes, the Japanese legend eventually decided to legit end this guy with a single-leg takedown and a series of brutal stomps to the head. 9. Ken Patera Before there was Mark Henry, Chad Gable or Kurt Angle, there was Ken Patera, the original pro wrestling Olympian. Despite winning a gold medal at the 1971 Pan-American Games, Patera never won any Olympic medals. He excelled at one event -- the clean and press -- and often had a hard time competing with more rounded lifters who could out-total him. After the clean and press was eliminated from competition, Patera retired from lifting to try his hand at wrestling, becoming a member of the Heenan Family and an early Intercontinental champion. 8. Nathan Jones Known as "The Colossus of Boggo Road", Nathan Jones was a 7' monster who served time in Australia for armed robbery. Why someone the size of Nathan Jones thought he would a) need a weapon to threaten anyone and b) evade detection following an armed robbery remains a mystery. While in prison, Jones focused on developing his body, and upon his release he was able to claim the title of Australia's strongest man. He rode that success to WWE, where he had no success. Today, he makes his living playing the giant white guy in Asian martial arts epics; you may remember his famous catchphrase, "RAAAAAAARGH." 7. Dino Bravo Canadians hate to brag, and that's why Montreal legend Dino Bravo billed himself as "Canada's Strongest Man." Uh, until Jesse Ventura helped him cheat to break a bench press record at the 1988 Royal Rumble, and then he began to declare himself the strongest man in the world. It never really got him anywhere, although he did memorably do some push-ups with Earthquake sitting on his back. It doesn't matter that Quake's feet were on the ground, it's fine, it's still impressive. 6. Mighty Igor Vodik From the antediluvian world that was the 1960's AWA comes Mighty Igor Vodik! Igor's gimmick was that he was an unsophisticated Polish dude who loved kielbasa and LOVED ALL THESE FANS. He was kind of a yokel, but he was also supposed to be superhumanly strong, and would perform strongman feats to illustrate that. Not, like, modern strength athlete feats, like circus strongman feats; breaking cinder blocks over his head, bending iron bars, etc. Igor's strength won him the love of the AWA fans, but also a one week world title reign in 1965. 5. Ted Arcidi Known as "Mr. 705", Ted Ardici earned his nickname by benching the absolutely absurd weight of 705 pounds. Ted was the "World's Strongest Man" most heavily associated with WWE's 1980's boom period, and definitely not just somebody misremembering the Million Dollar Man's name. Ted participated in the famous battle royal at WrestleMania II and faced foes like Tony Atlas and Hercules Hernandez. He was taken off television after Ken Patera returned to the WWE. The wrestling world can handle more than one world's strongest man (clearly) but it waters the concept down pretty irretrievably to have two on the same roster. 4. Bill Kazmaier Yes, it's WCW also-ran and erstwhile Justin Liger BattleBowl partner Bill Kazmaier! Kaz may not have been a spectacular success between the ropes, but his pedigree of sheer strength was unimpeachable. Kaz won the World's Strongest Man for three consecutive years -- 1980, 1981 and 1982 -- as well as something called Scottish Power Challenge every year from 1984 to 1989. If Bill Kazmaier had a legit caber tossing background and his finisher wasn't grabbing dudes by the feet and forcing them to moonsault onto their own necks, I swear to God . 3. Strong Man As an American wrestler working primarily in Japan and Mexico, Jon Andersen needed a name that could illustrate the intricacies and nuances of his personality to non-English speaker, and that's why he went with STRONG MAN. Despite impressive showings in strength competitions worldwide, Strong Man took first place in only one: North America's Strongest Man 2003. He's also never quite broken through in the pro graps game. 2. Braun Strowman WWE's current monster heel is also an accomplished strongman. Strowman medaled in more than half a dozen lifting competitions before he joined that swamp cult. I like to imagine Bray Wyatt setting up a table to pass out promotional pens at the Arnold Classic. It turns out that competitively hoisting absurdly hefty weights over your head is great practice for grabbing people by the neck and lifting them until they pass out. Who knew? 1. Mark Henry Of all the "strongest men" in the history of pro wrestling, no one has had the longevity of Mark Henry. Fresh from the 1996 summer Olympics, Mark Henry has been a fixture on WWE television for more than twenty years. Although he's been used properly for a vanishingly small fraction of that time, he still managed to win a world title or two, as well as establish his very own Hall of Pain.
