6. Giuseppe Tartini
If you have no idea who Giuseppe Tartini is, I won’t blame you, only hardcore violinists are familiar with this name. Born in 1692 Giuseppe was the first known owner of one of the famous Stradivarius violins. Just a few years before his death, Tartini had a weird dream about meeting the devil himself, who played him a piece on the violin. Of course he wrote everything down in the morning, and that’s how we got the Violin Sonata in G minor, also known as “The Devil’s Sonata”. The piece was incredibly complex, nearly unplayable, and everyone who played it completely lost their souls to the devil… Or at least that’s how the story goes.
