7 Charles Koch – 60 Billion
Charles Koch is the co-owner, board chairman and chief executive officer of Koch Industries. His brother David, served as executive vice president of the company.
Charles and David Koch both own 42% of the conglomerate, which is insane. The brothers inherited the business from their father and then took it upon themselves to expand both their business and their fortune.
Originally, the company was involved exclusively in oil refining and chemicals but now, Koch industries now include process and pollution control technologies and equipment. As well as focusing on, fibers and polymers, minerals, fertilizers and commodity trading and services.
These businesses produce a variety of well-known brands like Stainmaster carpet, the Lycra spandex fiber brand, Quilted Northern tissues and Dixie Cup.
6 Carlos Slim – 67.1 Billion
Carlos Slim is a Mexican business mogul, engineer, philanthropist, and investor. From 2010-2013 Slim was ranked the richest person in the world according to Forbes business magazine.
Slim derived his fortune from his large amounts of holdings in a number of Mexican companies through his conglomerate, Grupo Carso. Slim’s conglomerate includes education, healthcare, industrial manufacturing, high-technology, transportation, energy, media, real estate, entertainment, retail, sports and financial services.
Slim accounts for 40% of the listings on the Mexican Stock Exchange and his entire worth is equal to approximately 6% of Mexico’s gross domestic product.
5 Amancio Ortega – 70 Billion
Amancio Ortega is a Spanish billionaire. Ortega is the founder and former chairman of Inditex fashion group. Inditex is best known for its chain Zara, a clothing and accessory shop that can be found around the globe.
Ortega owns 59.29% of Inditex, which aside from Zara includes Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Kiddy’s Class, Zara Home, Tempe, Stradivarius, Pull and Bear, Bershka. Ortega has around 92,000 employees globally.
Ortega keeps a low profile and is known for his simple way of living. Until 1999, no photograph of Ortega had ever been published. Ortega also refuses to wear a tie which is kind of cool.
