The FCT Police Command has initiated an investigation into the suspected murder of a construction engineer, Mr. Humphrey Nnaji, whose decomposing body was discovered in his apartment in the Dawaki area of Abuja on Saturday.
SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police spokesperson, confirmed on Sunday that the investigation into the matter had commenced.
Concerned residents of the estate alerted the police on Saturday after detecting a strong odor emanating from Nnaji’s apartment.
Upon gaining entry, the police found the engineer’s decomposing body and a hammer near his head. There were signs suggesting he had been tied to a chair as cords were found around his neck and hands.
According to a source, a note found at the scene indicated that the perpetrator had carried out the act to avenge his sister’s murder, alleging that the deceased was involved in using women for illicit practices referred to as ‘Yahoo plus’.
The police have taken custody of the engineer’s body and have cordoned off the apartment for further investigation.
