7. Mark Wahlberg – Jack Twist in Brokeback Mountain
Mark Wahlberg caught the eye of iconic Chinese director, Ang Lee back in 2004 who was working on casting for the film Brokeback Mountain. Lee sent the script to Mark hoping he might play Jack Twist, but Mark struggled with the thought of playing a gay character given the rather explicit sex scenes. He told SF Gate, “I met with Ang Lee on that movie, I read 15 pages of the script and got a little creeped out. It was very graphic, descriptive—the spitting on the hand, getting ready to do the thing.” The role went to Jake Gyllenhaal, and he was nominated for an Oscar for his performance.
