When it comes to what’s considered attractive or unattractive, men have a broader range than women. In general, women tend to have a very black and white set of criteria whereas men have a lot more grey. As always, there are exceptions to every rule. Body Odor Pheromones are the sex hormones that cause women and men to be attracted to each other. Sorry, a man’s sweaty post-gym scent is not always going to cause women to flock towards him ripping their clothes off. Everyone has unique pheromones that are a part of your biological makeup. During different times of the month a woman will find herself more attracted to a man than usual due to her own hormones (ovulation). There are some scents that most women love, like the scent of man fresh out of the shower, a man with a spritz of confident, mildly spicy cologne, or minty fresh breath. Other attractive scents include a lingering smell of the outdoors (e.g. campfire, hiking in the woods, etc.) There are also scents that all women dislike including super strong grandfather-ly cologne, coffee breath, or putrid sweat. A furry body is much loved…on a dog. A man with a furry body isn’t usually described as being ‘hot’ or ‘sexy’. A hairy chest or hairy legs are fine and don’t usually cause a woman’s brain to tell her to run in the opposite direction. For the majority of women, a hairy back will have her brain telling her to run. Overgrown hair forests are a big no-no. Women do not want to have to enter the woods without knowing what is lurking in there. There could be rotting animal carcasses, wild animals, and God only knows what?! Women will gladly enter the woods if there is a well-groomed path where she can clearly see what lies ahead every step of the way. 13. Hands A man’s hand appeal goes directly back to evolution and survival of the fittest. Women actually find men with rough hands more attractive than men with soft, smooth hands. Men that have hands that feel softer than a baby’s butt portray him as not being a hard worker and not being able to provide food and protection. A man with a working man’s hands, that is they are rough to the touch and strong, portray him as being a hard worker that will provide and protect. A firm, strong handshake will do wonders for a man trying to make a good first impression on a woman. If the handshake is strong, that will make up for having super soft, unblemished hands. A strong handshake exudes confidence and optimism. A weak handshake exudes indecisiveness and caution. 12. Butt A man with a sculpted gravity-defying butt is something that certainly garners plenty of female attention. A man with a well-defined butt is an absolute turn-on to any living, breathing female. There is a certain checklist in every woman’s head when it comes to deciding if a man has a great butt. Firm? Well-defined? Too defined? Too saggy? A woman will subconsciously run through this list and will then make her assumptions based on her decision. Assumptions for everything from his bedroom prowess to what he does for a living. 11. Thighs Women love a man with a thigh gap. Actually, no they don’t. If anything they do not find a thigh gap on a man to be at all attractive. A woman admires a man’s thighs and is drawn to the thighs right after she checks out the gluteus maximus. Well-defined thighs are a very attractive feature on a man. They tell the woman that he leads an active lifestyle. Below the thighs are the calves. Sculpted calves project a man with high endurance and energy. Lean calves or bulky calves, it doesn’t really matter as long as they have some definition. Calves without definition give the picture of a sedentary lifestyle or immaturity. Neither of which women find attractive (again, there are always exceptions). 10. Waistline Thankfully for men a woman doesn’t judge a man’s waistline like she judges her own waistline. There is a very broad range for a woman’s thoughts when it comes to a man’s waistline. To figure out what a woman loves or doesn’t love about a man’s waistline would be like trying to find out a woman’s pillow preference. How firm do they like their pillow? How soft? How soft is too soft? Women love a man with substance, something soft they can rest their head on. Women love a man with impenetrable abs of steel that can protect them from everything except kryptonite. 9. Feet If a woman is into metrosexual guys that are high-maintenance she will most likely not like calloused, rough feet. She will prefer feet that feel soft like a baby’s butt. The majority of women will not think twice about rough, calloused feet. To her brain, the man is active and hard-working. In evolutionary terms, the woman will feel the man is a good mating candidate due to his ability to work hard and provide food and shelter. 8. Nails It comes without saying that clean nails represent good hygiene and obviously that is a desired trait for both men and women alike. In regards to a man’s nails, women prefer short nails. Men should regularly trim their toenails and fingernails. There is nothing worse than laying in bed and having a long toenail scratch against your leg. That causes a woman’s brain to think of nails on a chalkboard, which isn’t a good thing. Any romance that was there prior to her feeling the long toenail scrape against her leg is long gone. There are a few men out there that like to keep one long fingernail for scratching the inside of their ear. Please don’t do this. There are things called Q-Tips that work even better than your fingernail. Not only is that gross it is also unhygienic. 7. Chest Women fall into one of two categories when it comes to a man’s chest. Women either love a hairy chest or they love a smooth chest. There is no middle ground when it comes to hair on a man’s chest. A man’s chest is a woman’s favorite place to put her head. It offers a source of comfort and protection. Have you ever read a romance novel where “ she runs her hand across his rippling chest before resting her head and listening to his heartbeat”? or watched a superhero film where the lead male has a clinging spandex costume to emphasize a well-defined chest? A man with a hairy chest (e.g. Seth Rogan) exudes a funny, spontaneous personality. A man with a bare chest (e.g. Liam Hemsworth) radiates self-confidence and romance. 6. Hair A woman that wants a Fabio is as easy to find as a woman who wants a man that wears bell-bottoms. A man’s hair should never be long enough to put into a ponytail. There is never a time or place for that to be appropriate. A man with a ponytail will be perceived as either being incredibly lazy and ambivalent towards his appearance, or high maintenance and attention-seeking. Neither of those is very attractive. Hair should be at the appropriate length to suit your lifestyle and personality but it should also be clean and smell clean. When a woman runs her hands thru a man’s hair she doesn’t want to feel sticky hair gel or crunchy mousse. She also doesn’t want to have her hands smelling like smoke, food, or any other unpleasant odor. 5. Teeth Sparkling white teeth on a man are a desired trait for all women. White teeth exude health and happiness. Beautiful white teeth tell a woman that the man has good personal hygiene, takes care of himself, and is healthy. A man that has yellowing teeth with noticeable plaque buildup is not going to be found very attractive, even if the rest of him looks like Matthew McConaughey. Spaces and gaps aren’t unattractive. If anything, spaces and gaps add character and a uniqueness about him. Clean, beautiful teeth are one secret to scoring a woman’s affections. If you are less than confident about the color of your teeth, there are dozens of inexpensive yet highly effective teeth whitening products on the market. Also, visit your dentist once every 6 months for a cleaning to get rid of that unsightly and unhealthy plaque. 4. Eyes The color of a man’s eyes don’t matter as much as their shape and their expressions. Are they bright and happy looking? Do they seem mysterious and deep? Are his eyes darting all over the place and not making direct eye contact? Is he acting like he’s listening but his eyes are looking behind you or to the side of you? A man’s eyes speak volumes for what is going on inside his head. A woman needs to feel trust and honesty in a man’s eyes. Shifting, darting eyes make a woman feel uncomfortable and anxious. Aggressive eye contact, where a woman feels a man’s eyes undressing her, is also quite uncomfortable, however, there are a few who love the aggressive eyes (e.g. Mr. Grey) and hard stare. 3. Posture A confident, driven, successful man doesn’t slouch. The more confident a guy, the more attractive he appears. A man that has exceptional posture will be a take charge kind of guy in the bedroom and what woman doesn’t want that?! An unconventionally attractive person can become attractive with the right attitude and posture. A person that has all the traits of a conventionally attractive person can be seen as unattractive if they have poor posture and lack assertiveness. 2. Back When the words ‘back’ and ‘man’ are used together in a sentence, a woman will almost always picture a hot and sweaty construction worker holding a sledge hammer. His tanned skin showcasing his well-defined muscles. There is a reason why male strippers dress in construction worker costumes! If traffic studies were done on accidents near construction zones it wouldn’t be surprising to find out that there were many rear-endings done by women. Women craning their necks around to watch the construction workers swinging those sledgehammers. The back is an extremely sexy part of a man’s body and the great news is a guy doesn’t need a 6-pack to have an incredible looking back.
