Most people have become accustomed to simply sending a text without really thinking about how the other person might respond once they receive it. Some things (such as these listed in this article) just should not be sent as a typed message. Technology has made it way too easy to send bad news without having to face the consequences. 15. We Need to Talk Anytime you hear these words coming from someone you love, immediately you start to think of what you could have done to deserve it. Almost anyone who hears this will spend nearly every moment trying to figure out what this is about until they talk to the person who said it. At least if you hear it from someone, it is possible to convince them to tell you what it’s concerning. If you read it in a text message, it is very difficult to determine what it might be, and if the person does not say right away what this is, then you just might ruin someone’s day. Even though it may be nothing too important, the person on the receiving end does not know that until they hear what it is that needs to be said. At least then, it won’t be so confusing. 14. Do You Want to Go Out With Me? Unless you’re in elementary school, this is rarely cute or well-received. Anytime you are asking someone out for the first time, it is almost always a good idea to invite them in person or on the phone. It may be all right to ask someone out via text message, but only after a first date has already been established. It may be 2016, but most people still like to be invited to dinner without having to read about it first. 13. Will You Marry Me? For the same reasons above, it is also a very, very bad idea to ask someone to marry you via text. As a matter of fact, the only time you should every ask someone to marry you is in person. Even though it is no longer customary to be married before living together, almost every woman likes to be asked in a creative and very thought-out way. You may think that your girlfriend is different than every other girl alive, but it’s almost guaranteed that she will not say yes to a text asking for her hand in marriage. This is just a disaster waiting to happen. 12. I Want a Divorce If you are married, the very last thing you want to do is to tell your husband or wife that you want a divorce. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen and it is inevitable that a split will have to happen. You would have to be pretty upset with someone to not even announce a divorce in person. I guess if you texted a marriage proposal, a divorce text would seem appropriate. This also goes for breakups. Anyone who is in a serious relationship should never text a message that states that they want to break up. Yes, it may be easier than in person, but it’s just flat-out rude. 11. I Think I’m Gunna Poop My Pants ( Or Personal Information) Basically, any personal information through a text is never really a good idea; especially with all of the security issues that may arise. Putting your social security number in a text could be a problem if someone else intercepted it. Telling your husband about the developing scar tissue from your recent surgery would be heavily embarrassing if his boss happened to be looming over his shoulder while he was reading it, as well. The best way to keep your personal information personal is to not send it in a permanent form, such as a text. 10. Sending nude Pictures Okay, so this is not something that you would say, but sending pictures of yourself in the buff could have detrimental circumstances if you happen to send them to the wrong person. It is also something else that you wouldn’t want the rest of the world to get a hold of if you were to become famous, or run for political office, for instance. Then again, if you have nothing to be ashamed of, then it might not be such a bad idea if you’re not the bashful type. 9. I Love You (For The First Time) Even though it is not damaging to express your love in a text message, it is a bit ill-mannered to say “I love you” for the first time in written form. For the same reasons that nobody wants to be asked out by text, most people don’t want to hear “I love you” for the first time by text, either. Besides, they would have to read it, because it would be impossible to hear it unless they have a text-to-speech turned on. Then it would sound a little bit creepy. That, right there, is a good enough reason not to say it with your phone. Just tell them in person. If you don’t have the courage enough to say it, then most likely you aren’t ready to convey it at all. 8. Umm… I’m Pregnant This really shouldn’t need to be explained why it’s a bad idea to send through a text message. This is another issue that, if she cannot face the man who got her pregnant, then she never should have been with him at all. This is definitely one thing that has to be said in person, especially if the couple isn’t married. Or, worse case scenario: the man is married to someone else. Then texting would be even worse, especially if his wife were to read it. You absolutely need to make a phone call when this happens. The wife deserves to find out through her husband, and not through a quick SMS from “the other woman.” 7. F You, I Quit! Now there are certain circumstances where this may seem acceptable. For instance; if you are a pion that works at a fast food establishment and are easily replaced, it may seem okay to tell your boss that you quit through a quick text. However; if it is right before you have to be at work, you may be putting other people in a situation that they don’t want to be in. They will have to find someone to replace you, or to work your shift, and this is not something that you would want on a resume. For most jobs, it’s normally acceptable to give a two-week notice before leaving. It’s just common courtesy. 6. You’re Fired! This is also another text that should never be sent. If you’re the boss, it may be extremely tempting to send a text rather than to face an employee who just isn’t working out. However, if you want to be in good standing with anyone else in the company, just have a short meeting with the person so that you won’t get a bad reputation. It also isn’t a good idea for the simple fact that they may not receive the message and continue on working. You will have to end up paying this person for hours that they worked in which you did not want. 5. You Looked Really Fat in That Dress Last Night Trolling among the internet is common among people who don’t really know each other, but it is not something you would want to hear from someone who is texting you. It is quite rude to say mean things to people, and most individuals believe that if you don’t have something nice to say about someone, then don’t say anything at all. You probably don’t want to text it to anyone else, either, just in case it gets back to the one in which you are referring. 4. This Is the Address For Jack’s Surprise Party! So this is not really a bad text to send, at all. That is, unless the person you are sending it to is the person who the surprise party is intended (ie: Jack). Imagine receiving a text that tells you where your surprise party is going to be. Chances are pretty good that it’s not going to be a surprise for much longer. This also applies to sending an address or date of a party to somebody who is not even invited in the first place. Not only will you have explaining to do when they show up, but you will have an unwelcome guest at the party. 3. I Am So Incredibly Sorry that I Ran Over Your Cat and Blamed Your Kid If there is any reason not to text, the reason is that you did something that you’re incredibly sorry for, and you absolutely need to pick up a phone or to see them in person. Anyone who is making a big apology should never, ever send a text to apologize. The chances of the apology being accepted are slim to none. And if you’re running over your friend’s cat and blaming their child, then you probably have more problems than what you are sending in your messages. 2. Sorry But… Your Dog Died If you are close to your dog, then you already know that most pets are just about as devoted to their owners as kids are to their parents. If you know that someone’s dog passed away, it would be a horrible tragedy to not tell them in person. Would you want to find out your child died by a simple text? Of course not. The same thing goes for pets. 1. Your Parents (Or Someone You Love) Were in a Terrible Car Accident…. Does this one even really need an explanation? The only thing worse than reading bad news via text is finding out horrible news like this by a random Facebook post that your sister posts. This is definitely not a good idea, particularly if the person reading it is driving. It is never a good idea to drive and text (and in most places, it’s illegal), but something like this would definitely cause the person reading it to tear up and possibly cause an accident, themselves. Please do this one in person, or at the least, by phone if you are too far away from the person to visit. Undeniably, nobody wants to read this text.
