Likely one of the most endeared series created by Netflix and its most watched, Orange is the New Black,comes with a hefty price tag. It is estimated that each season costs roughly $50 million to create. The series is based on the memoir of the same title that documents Piper Kerman’s (Piper Chapman in the show) time spent in a minimum-security federal prison. The show is filmed in an old children’s psychiatric center in Rockland County, NY. The show premiered in July 2013, and hooked audiences right away. In fact, the creators may have known they had a hit on their hands before the show even premiered, as it was renewed for its second season before it ever streamed to audiences. Now, the series is going on its fourth season. The series isn’t only beloved by viewers, it has also received critical acclaim. It has won a variety of awards, including Emmys and Critics Choice Television awards.
