8. Jhumpa Lahiri
Want to talk about starting out a career out with a bang? Lahiri’s debut collect of short stories,Interpreter of Maladies, went on to win the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. She also has friends in high places. Barack Obama appointed her to the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities. Her most recent novel, The Lowland, was nominated for the Man Booker Prize and the National Book Award for Fiction. When she isn’t busy writing critically acclaimed fiction, she teaches at Princeton University.
